I´m thnking about becoming a vegetarian, but I have a leather jacket and leather boots. I feel that if I stopped using them it would be a waste. Any thoughts? I´d also like to know some tips on becoming a vegetarian. Thanks.

Yeah, I´m definately not gonna buy leather anymore. As to my name, I thought it sounded cool and I want to someday become a vegan.

Even if it´s second-hand? Or what about if you got it before you became a vegetarian?

Vegetarian is a dietary thing whereas Veganism is the outright rejection of animal products in general. If you're going to be becoming a vegetarian then you don't really *need* to get rid of your leather stuff.

As for tips, the smell of meat products was the worst part for me. If you can get past that I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

Well even if i'm not a vegan, i'd say that using leather would equal making publicity for it, second hand or not... Thats like calling yourself anticapitalist and wearing nike t-shirt even if it second hand or you got it before you became anticapitalist, you are still promoting it...

Would a vegetarian eat second hand meat or the rest of someone's meat ? Don't think so...

but its only my personnal point of view, a lot of vegans wear second hand leather and such...

it's simple, if you want to be vegan and not wear leather, but don;t want it to go to waste, give your leather to someone who will appreciate it, like a homeless person who would be happy to have some nice warm clothes.

I think maybe you should start by reading up on vegetarianism and veganism a bit cos you seem to be a bit confused to what it means... All though i've met many people claiming to be vegetarian but eating fish and chicken, and people who claim to be vegan but sometimes eat quorn products containing egg, so you wouldn't be the most lost case out there.
To as a new vegan wear leather you already had is kinda understandable before you get it all sorted out but as soon as you let anyone know you're vegan they will ask you what your shoes are made of... There are good alternatives to leather, Vegetarian Shoes have not only shoes but also jackets and belts and stuff.
    Good luck!

I did what anx said. When i became a vegetarian, i gave my leather to friends who would wear the shit out of it. As for boots... well the next set i got were all man-made materials. So just look at the tags on clothes and shoes before you buy em to stay clear, or make them yourself.

But vegetarians dont wear leather too (not saying that they ALL do). The only thing that keeps me a vegetarian is i fuckin love the shit out of cheese (not eggs nore even milk, soy milk is just so damn good) and that is it..

i tried going vegan in one shot, and it was just way rough for me. i decided to go vegetarian and stay that way for at least a year before trying to go vegan again. i've been a vegetarian for a little over 3 months now, and it's gotten to be like second nature now. you should go for it.

i share your leather dilemma as well. i just got a pair of boots in december, but i'm thinking i'm just gonna give 'em to somebody.

hmm :p i take a different aproach, like say an american indian that if you kill an animal you should use all of the remains/meat, as the animals are allready dead when you buy the meat or the leather or the bone stuff, if buy all animal products atleast then the animal died for a reason, to give you food/clothes ect. where if you dont its allready dead so now its just rotting meat, and leather that no one is wearing.. of couse in ones own society you could do it "old school" and kill the animal when some one wants it, not kill it and then expect people want it. but if you buy animal products then it makes more "sales" and then they start to make more animal products expecting "growth" so either way its still "bad" to animals, but thats just another problem with cap. society.

First, animals are killed for either clothing or meat, they don't take a cow to a slaughter house and save the hide, they kill a whole new cow. Its incredibly wasteful, plus when buy meat/leather/fur you are supporting industries that not only cause animals to suffer but in cases of large slaughter houses and cooperate farms, people as well. This is about finding things to do with your old leather goods so that they're not just sitting around and giving it to someone who would use it and have it without supporting these companies.
So you know its wrong but you still think we should buy all these products?
