The municipality is also encouraging all bars and other public places to place this sign in their establishment

Also i remind you that the bikini was illegal in spain during a couple of years because of Franco, it was legalized only in 1952. What a step backward !!

Maybe they saw an old guy in budgie smugglers and saw the back riding up his ass crack giving a g-string look and thought, fuck this shit.

Nah in all seriousness, this is a bit ridiculous. I hardly find bathing suits offensive let alone uncivil.

I've actually seen that. He had to be about 300+ lbs and wearing a fur sweater while riding a ten speed. The seat was non existent. If I had to see that every day I could see why they'd want to ban that in public places. But then I remember that my neck can swivel and point my head in another direction.

What's your fucking problem mate? Does it make you nervous thinking that once a year that some Queers may march down the street in skimpy clothing? Seriously grow the fuck up and think before you post comments as shallow as that.

this is ironic actually, because I was gonna say a at least 50,000 people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and sexual orientation should show up in Barcelona wearing bikinis and march through the streets having a good time. it would actually be a lot like a pride march, in that everyone has a blast, no one gets hurt unless the skinheads show up and the best part is it isn't a crime!

Sorry it's a result of hypervigilance which kinda comes with being an oppressed minority within an oppressed mass. I'm sure you can understand that.

I don't see trying to convince people to put clothes on as infringing on civil rights. They're not even banning anything, just discouraging somewhat indecent behavior. I think that in an anarchist society there will still be a place for decency and manners. (Not enforced to prevent you from doing certain things, but as a social agreement to treat people with respect.) I wouldn't walk around town wearing a bathing suit, i'd have more self-respect. If i were a local resident I wouldn't let half-naked foreign tourists overrun my town and make me accomodate them. That's an example of capitalism harming a community.

How is a swimsuit indecent? Its not like people are walking around the town naked.

I have family that lives in Cape Cod, they know the environment that they live in and have no problem with people walking around in bikinis and other swimwear. Again, its not like these people are naked, they're just enjoying being in an area with lots of sun and surf.

or just low self esteem? :p

I think if you are near a nice beach, there is probably something wrong with you if you ARNT in a bathing suit, lol.

However, i dont think its appropriate for people to going for casual strolls in bikini wear. Swim suits are for swimming, and if you dont intend on swimming, you shouldn't be wearing one, you just look silly. On the beach, and at bars/public places on the beach front, I say go for it. Otherwise it may not be offensive, but certainly is unnecessary...

well whatever our attitude is toward whatever type of clothes we're talking about, i think what those spaniards were getting at was they dont like the attitude wealthy foreigners bring to their city where they live for real, not just visit. it just sucks that they chose to try to reclaim their city through clothing, its not exactly effective and makes them look prude, which they might be i dont know, but not wanting to be drowned in entitled tourists is something i dont think we can really hold against them
