Hendrix is number one, and if you dont have him at number one, then you must not understand the guitar very well.

Hendrix blows my mind. I forgot which song it was, but it was a video of him performing a song live. Anyways, during the middle of the solo he casual walks to the side of the stage and begins talking to a crew member. Not sure what he was tlaking about, but the fact that he was playing this solo so damn casually while talking to someone. Maybe it is because I am shit at guitar but I thought that was just cool.

Yes, Hendrix is the best guitarists but naturally I assumed that by best guitarists he meant by best PUNK guitarists. But if you include every guitarist then the list might go a little like this:
    1# Hendrix
2# Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band
    3# BB King

this is the first three from the "Rolling Stone 100 Best Guitarists List"
I don't quite agree with it because it even has The Edge (U2) and Kurt Cobain (Nirvana).

P.S I have no idea who Duane Allman is ;)

EDIT: here the link to the full list,

Sorry didn't mean necessarily guitarist they could have been drummers and bassists or whatever instrument you like. I also didn't mean necessarily punk or anarcho-punk musicians. I just thought your opinion of your top five musicians. I liked Hendrix, Richie Blackmore , Jimmy Page plus countless others, Lars Ulrich from Metallica (just pure drumming talent), Cliff Burton (bass), Robert Plant (for vocals) etc. Actually when it comes down to it there are far too many to mention.

I don't think that you should put bassists, drummers and guitarists all in the same list, that just makes it confusing,

lol no neal pert for drumming?

The Pogues contain the best accordian player (James Fearnley), Tin whistle Player (Spider Stacy), and mandolin player (Terry Woods) in alt/punk music.

Also my favorite guitarist of all time (not the best but my favorite) is Leonard Cohen. why, you may ask? Listen to Avalanche, The Stranger Song, Teachers, or The Partisan and tell me you can play that fast :guitar:

Zappa blew hendrix away. if you deny that, you obviously havent heard enough of his work.

Frank is still light years ahead of anyone musically, people havent even begun to touch his sheer level of composition and execution....let alone guitar playing.

I'm going to agree with Punkmar and say Stevie. He and Hendrix have to be nearly tied. They didn't play the guitar so much as they became their guitar. That is a very rare talent. Then there is Brian Setzer, amazing.

As far as bass goes. My top 3 would be Les Claypool, Cliff Burton and Matt Friedman.

I actually think Hendrix has better energy/overall sound/chops when it comes purely to guitar skill compared to Zappa. that said, i love frank way more than Jimmy.

Based in generally great composition, i'd say

    Frank Zappa
    John Scofield
    Wesley Willis
    Antonio Vivaldi
    Tom Morello

    or something to that extent.

I'd say Les Claypool and Flea. No one else even comes close to what those 2 can do with a bass.
