im sorry but me not having a car wont kill the caps. but it would destroy any chance i have at working and living in the long run. my job requires that i am able to get all over the island of montreal. on day i work in verdun the next day i might have to work on the west island. it would make my trade imposible. evenh with public transit i still would never get hired. i cant go around carrying a bunch of tools and saws and drills on he bus. it just does not work.

you see bitching. but people are resposible for what is happening. supply and demand is correct thats how economics work. but the tricky thing is. the big buisness men supply the good and they also set the price. do you think they think about how fair the cost is? no they care about selling you gas for 2$ a litire when they get it for 75 cents. so they over charge everything so that we spend more then they do while they sit there making the money. the first goal of capitalism is to make sure capitalism will still be in place 5 years from now. everything that happends is organised in a way to ensure the capitalit ways will continue with out opposition. it has made buying and selling of goods so intertwined in our lives it is alot harder to fight it then walking to the store..

hmm which school is that? it must be the hopful thinking majore? if you really wanted to make sacrafises against capitalism then you would not go to university eather. they are great for the capitalist ways. they get you so in school dept that your paying with that big ol 15% interest or what ever the interest is till you 32. school trap you into constantly paying for years after you are done learning how to save the world from all that is bad.

everything around is capitalism. so instead of moving into a forest and hunting rabbits. we try and find out where the greedyness happends and know who is fucking us over. because do you think they go around advertising they are making tons of cash by cutting corners and commiting scams and fraud. nope they dont.

very naive statement. the technology is out there, but big business makes sure it never sees the light of day so they can stay in power and keep raping us with the need for oil. Oil Businessmen rule the world. It's easy to say 'you shouldn't use oil' but the truth is we've been molded into a society that needs it. Yes i am willing to blame myself when it comes down to choices i've made that may hurt the world, but i can't believe you are defending the dispicable oil companies like they aren't at fault at all.

Ok then the problem really isn't capitalism, it is consumerism. It the attitude of buy!! buy!! buy!! It's become an addiction. If we didn't consume so much as a species we wouldn't really need to have oil rigs everywhere possible. We have become a very gluttonous organism and that is really the problem. I tend to look at humans as a species, not as groups. So when I say we that includes then entire species, oil companies included. So I am not defending them without blame being assigned there as well.

I'm not saying don't use oil, just use less. It's impossible to stop all together. Walk or ride a bike whenever possible. Grow a garden. The little things can really add up if enough people do it. If the world doesn't change and we keep doing the same bullshit. At least you will know you made the smallest negative impact possible. In the end I think that will be the best anyone could ever do.

And I got home just in time to watch the numbers roll in
We got the body count from a conflict, not a war
We got the body count every afternoon at four,"

Wow the more i read from you the more i laugh....

So basically you are saying we are guilty for the oil spill ?? That's fucking ridiculous !!! The problem is the industry, not the one who are forced to use it. Face it, we live in 21st century, everyone is forced one day or another to use a transporation, cars or buses... It's not us who manage the oil industry, it's them, so THEY are responsible.

It's like saying we are guilty of tchernobyl because we use electricity and because we should stop using it... it's totally ridiculous

By the way we already have the technology to replace oil, it's called electric cars, but once again since you ignore everything you will probably blame us for not using it. FALSE ! Once again it's the oil industry fault, they made pressures to kill the electric car.

Watch this documentary called "Who killed the electric car" and you will understand:
    www.anarcho-punk.net/viewtopic.php?f=99&t=4101

And even if you nerver used a car or a bus in your life (which would be a lie) do you really think you are boycotting the oil industry ? NO YOU ARE NOT !
Maybe you are the one who should go back to school, and learn that plastic is a product made with oil. And plastic is everywhere in your life. All products are made from oil. Your computer contains oil. Your TV contains oil. Your screen monitor. Your keyboard. Your mouse. Your home/appartment. EVERYTHING is made from oil. Even the anarcho-punk albums you listen to are made with discs based from oil.

And you support oil with all of the products you buy: food, clothes, things you buy from internet, etc... Because everything has to be delivered to get to you, so there is oil being spent to deliver the product from the production place to the place where it is being sold.

Stop talking about making the sacrifices when you can't even make it yourself.

And even if we all used electric cars, then there would still be problems with the electricity industry, and following your point of view we would be responsible for nuclear disasters. This prove once again that the source of the problem is the INDUSTRY, not the customers.

This is the most funny part hahaha, you seem to be the one who only bitch on the internet but just stick with that.

No it's both. And it's capitalism that offers so many useless products. It's capitalism that creates a fake demand and it's capitalism that convince us to buy things we don't need.

No that's not what you said.

Reformist point of view. Boycotting will never change anything.

Seriously you should join green peace, they share exactly the same point of view. "the smallest impact is useful", remember.

don't yall think that maybe flaming on the internet is just as useless as bitching on the internet? maybe? i mean, we supposedly participate in this forum in an attempt to unite and work to come up with ideas to STOP bullshit like this oil spill from happening (or at least to learn what we can do better next time), but it just deteriorates into arguing amongst ourselves... personally, i agree with both sides. yes, the oil companies are an evil empire that views human life, quality of life (not just for humans) and natural resources as disposable commodities, useful only for turning a profit. yes, they manipulate our demands into more demands as often as they can to maintain their money and power. in this case, i do believe that we are the victims, they do it to us. however, there is something to be said about how we choose to live within that reality, and, while playing the blame-game is important to determining who yer enemies are, it doesn't really help to fight them and their goals. i think ghoul has a good starting point for smaller things we can do to lessen our personal impact, but at the end of the day, that doesn't stop the oil big-wigs from turning a profit and drilling for more oil.

    so.... what can we do?

for one, i think education is super important. you'd be surprised (maybe, i'm not anymore...) at how stupid people are in general. well, maybe not stupid, but definitely ignorant. for instance, obama has stated that offshore drilling will only be allowed to continue with assurance that this kind of accident won't happen again. uhhhhh i smell bullshit! i mean, i'm totally sure BP meant to spill all their valuable oil into the gulf. (sarcasm) along these lines, we can try to educate people as to why they need tell obama to cut that shit out. on that same note, i think it's a good idea to boycott BP, not because of the oil spill itself, but because of the fact that BP has a long history of not focusing on accident prevention because it has been more profitable for them to deal with it after the fact in the past. that's not to mention all the ridiculous false information and hush hush attitude they've taken regarding the facts of this spill. again, a lot of people don't think about these things.

in case ya haven't noticed, punx aren't ever the majority (yet.) the masses might be asses, but they're the ones with the buying power and where their money goes helps determine what sneaky underhanded bullshit those big corporations are gonna pull next. you think they're gonna clean up their act cause of some nerdy punx arguing on the internet? we gotta convert the mindless masses into critical thinkers that base their decisions on the harsh realities of today. and, unfortunately, we are currently in an excellent stance to do so, what with the state of the world n what not.... \m/

i agree with this 100%. we consume to fund business. we pay taxes to fund government (and the prison you'll go to for tax evasion). the root of the problem like the BP oil spill is in us. we can stop things like this from happening by boycotting and other forms of rebellion. and i think ghoul really said the magic word for anarchism to work- "sacrafice." blame is not sacrafice, it's scapegoatism. many anarchists talk of getting power away from those who have; where does that power go? freedom means responsiblity. if we want to be completely free, we also have to be completely responsible for our actions. and in the case of the BP spill, our actions of consumption led to it. and government's reliance on oil led to it. but to quote everyone's favortie band "Systems just aren't made of bricks they're mostly made of people." we're all in this together; from the most radical anarcho-pacifist to the war mongering politician. it just sucks that a huge catastrophe must occur in order to open our eyes to the error of our way

U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen has announced that the BP oil spill has stopped, reports the Los Angeles Times. Engineers have, for the time being, successfully stopped oil from entering the Gulf of Mexico via the “top kill” method. It took a single day of using the top kill method of pumping mud and debris into the BP oil well leak before the flow stopped. However, officials have made it clear that the efforts are not complete and a more permanent cap must be established soon.
Oil spill stopped after well pressure reduced considerably

The BP live video feed that preceded the oil spill being stopped showed that while the well pressure behind the titanic oil leak had lessened considerably, it remained consistent enough for a constant flow. Pumping mud and other debris into the leak source and the blowout preventer began the necessary pressure equalization process. Once the pressure completely subsides, engineers plan to entomb the well in cement. Only after the well is completely sealed off will government and BP officials consider the emergency efforts a full success. Short term loans of aid from BP continue to be needed.
You can never have enough mud

This is particularly true if you’re talking about a recovery vessel responsible for top kill. Adm. Allen informed the press that one of those ships actually ran out mud before the job was complete. Thus, a backup mud ship was on the way. However, the top kill work the ships were able to complete over the past day appears to have been enough to stop the oil leak.
Is this Gulf of Mexico disaster worse than the Valdez disaster?

Numerous sources claim that the total number of gallons of oil that have entered the Gulf of Mexico during the BP catastrophe dwarf what happened with the Exxon Valdez in Prince William Sound in 1989. Coast Guard estimates for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill say 5,000 barrels of oil a day have been flowing into the Gulf, but many independent sources claim that estimate to be entirely too conservative, writes the Times. Adm. Allen remains optimistic that the BP oil spill will stay under control.
