I couldn't find any good english articles to post, but here are some facts

    - This is the worst environemental catastrophe since almost 30 years in the USA

    - Official sources say 800,000 liters of oil is going in the water of the Guld of Mexico per day, experts say the real numbers could be 20 times more (that's 16 millions litters per day)

    - The catastophe started on April 22nd, so if you calculate that's 416 millions of litter in total that went in the water of gulf of Mexico

    Disgusting...

Here's the "Green" section of Huffpost. It's almost exclusively dedicated to the oil spill in the gulf, with pictures, videos, interviews, etc. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/green/
This is a goddamn atrocity. Apparently it's like the equivalent of the Exxon Valdez spill every two days or so.

I just love how right wing pundits like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity tried to blame this on so called "environmental terrorists" instead of placing the blame squarely where it deserves to be, the oil companies and the government.

Yes, people and groups who work for the preservation of the environment are responsible for the worst ecological catastrophe this country has ever seen. But they have an agenda so truth and logic are none of their concern.

i was watchin some cnn the other day. i was hoping to catch a report on thiland madness going on. but they were talking about the spill. and from a 45 min report the only thing they seemed to be saying is how all the first reports were wrong and the spill isent so bad. and how its undercontrol and they were trying to kind of brush it under the table.

it kind of pissed me off because the gulf of mexico is a huge place filled with tons of fish and hundreds of years of coral reef. and the oil it owning the shit out of it :( ...

also i was watchin some random 11pm news report. they were saying how to try and pervent oil from coming on shore they are making big ass piles of sand to try and keep it from flowing on shore with the tide. thats a pretty good idea since once that shit is on the land it just covers everything really good. but the cost is to big! and with changing water currents and what not its getting tough to try and contain the huge black mass of death floating around.

any one know if the continuis flow of oil has been stopped yet? or if it is going to be stopped soon. thats somthing i havent really heard much about

the new plan they have in place is they pretty much have a hardcore vaccum shoved into the busted pipe. but right now it is only getting 1/5 of the oil. the 4/5 is still spilling into the water freely.

i have not heard many people use that ratio lol. 1/5....i dont know it sounds weird to me...

Blaming the government or the oil companies is wrong. It's OUR fault. Everyone that drives a car is to blame. Everyone that eats is to blame. Everyone that owns a CD or record is to blame. There is plenty of blame to go around but I don't think blame can clean up the mess.

if not for the capitalistic bastards in power, we wouldn't need oil anymore (or at least not as much) but no, god forbid the rich bastards in power lose profits. Fuck the oil industry, I hope if anything this disaster will serve to remind us how fucked up they are, and people will start demanding alternatives to oil.

It really has nothing to do with who is in power. It has to do with the lifestyles we choose. We like to eat right. The tractors that plow the fields run off of diesel. The trucks that ship the food again run off of diesel. The cars you drive burn oil. The keyboard we are typing on is a petroleum product. It is our demand that created this disaster. It's like blaming the drug dealer for the junkies' addiction. Ultimately it is the junkie that will put the needle in their own arm. So we all share the blame on this one. We all use oil in some way or another.

Business as usual in the United States. Just blame "terrorists" for something, anything and people will cream their fuckin pants, and you can get away with murder.

Bullshit. You really believe we don't have the technology to replace the need for oil? The reason we don't is because oil businessmen rule the world, and will do whatever they can to keep oil a necessity, blood, pollution, destruction of wildlife, none of that is as important to them as their pocket books.

yup they dont want whats mnaking them tons and tons of cash to go away. like any perpetual motion energy source never sees the light of day because the patinit is bought out by a company and then never sees the light of day. or a resercher's funding is cut and they are dried out of cash and can no longer do reserch into cancer or oil alternatives or what ever it is...they just stop it from becoming a possibility

the oil rig that is causing all this debacle, is owned by one of George W Bush's right hand man in the oil industry.

This sounds like his payback for Obama cleaning up New Orleans and dealing with Katrina...

George: "ooooh that Barack Obama, hes doing mighty well. Well I guess i can make an "accident" happen in the gulf, sky rocket gas prices since i just wasted it all, and still make money off the American public. Oh! Not only that, we will get thousands, maybe millions in "Rig Explosion Prevention Programs""

This is CAPITALISM AT ITS FINEST!

Hmmm... And here I always thought anarchism was all about personal responsibility. You know, doing the right thing without being told it;s the right things. All I see here is blame. It their fault for this and it's their fault for that. The oil industry makes so much money because you buy it!! If you hate capitalism so much you really should learn how it works. The basic premise of capitalism is supply and demand. If there is a demand for a product someone will supply it and make money.

If you really want to strike a blow against the oil industry stop buying from them. Don't drive ,walk everywhere. Grow your own food. Convince others to join you. Go to school and learn how to make the technology to replace oil. Do something other than blame someone else. It's lame as hell. More than, that it's hypocritical. Oil is so evil yet everyone here uses it. Stop using it then. Make the sacrifices necessary to cause change. If you really want a new system start a revolution. But you won't. That would require real sacrifice, maybe even your life. Bitching on the internet is easier so you will just stick with that.
