What are your thoughts on political correctness? If you are a naysayer, then consider this, aren't there certain un-pc terms we shouldn't use anymore? (like Indian, Fag, Black, etc.) Why do people make such a big deal of wanting to hang on to archaic terms, and why do others want to start fights over it?

That's one of those terms that really pisses me off because it gets thrown around a lot by conservative right wing fucks trying to assault progressive policies and justify their prejudices. Ugh.

I find political correctness has gone overboard. I have no problem with being called short, fat, bald or dead if that is what I am. I am not vertically challenged nor folically challenged. Perhaps the terms white and black are not appropriate since most people that are white are in fact pink (unless you're Scottish and then you are pale blue and I can say this as I am a Scot) and most that black are in fact brown. Changing nursery rhymes such as 'Baa Baa Black sheep' is totally ridiculus and changing names in 'The Magic Faraway Tree' from Dick and Fanny to Rick and Frannie because of some adult's dirty minds is just stupid.

LOL i hadn't heard about that one. However there was a children's book called THE LITTLE BLACK SAMBO which for obvious reasons changed it's name, and I support that, but then again there seems to be a consenus that PC terms about race is a thinner line then other terms. I'm not for whitewashing history, How do we regard historical contexts, like Mark Twain's writings where NIGGER is constantly used?

The one that gets me is the Word MIDGET. It sounds better to me then LITTLE PEOPLE! Little People to me sounds more demeaning:p

    Yes exactly.

Politically correctness is not only about avoiding sexist, homophobic and racist words, it is also about using words like "obese" or "overweighted" instead of "fat" just because it might offend some peoples. This is exactly what i was trying to explain to AnarchoFem when she started calling me a fake anarchist because she tought anarchists couldn't be against political correctness.

Pale blue - a reference to how Billy Connelly describes the Scots people. They are extremely pale, almost see-through, that their veins show blue through their skin

I'm generally against political correctness. My personal philosophy is there's no such thing as bad words, just bad intentions. Some words are more powerful than others and should be used with more care than others. I think that's about the long and short of it.

Ah okay! I figured I was missing some reference. Ha, yeah I'm like that, both my sister and dad are quite olive-skinned though and we're 100% Scottish. Strange.

Yes this is what I hate. Obese is the correct medical term for someone who is considered overweight compared to an expected healthy weight range, that is a weight range, where you experience no health issues that arise because of your weight. I hate the fact that people get offended by using the correct medical term to describe their condition.

I am far from PC myself. Hell I use 'belittling', 'demeaning' and 'offending' words in nearly every fucking sentence. If you do NOT like that, tough shit, unless you tell me and I'll try and refrain from using those words when you're around.
A good example over here is the word 'kanker', which translates to 'cancer' and is used in much the same way as 'fuck(ing)' is used in the English language. Most people over here know someone who has cancer, or maybe even 'conquered' it themselves, but forget that there is a distinction between the word and the condition... context people, context.
So yeah, I AM a naysayer, as NGNM said there are no bad words, only bad intentions.

Lol, no I didn't! I said to you that POLITENESS was not for the beourgeoisie. You are such a liar Ungovernable. Can you quote what I ACTUALLY said please! You said that the beourgeoisie were polite!!!! Which is so ridiculous to hear coming from an anarchist, they oppress us...how exactly are they polite?!
And in case this still doesn't make sense to you...there is a DIFFERENCE between being polite and politically correct.

I agree with nodz, I definitely think it has gone too far in many ways, nonetheless there obviously are certain things that aren't acceptable.

    proof:
    Who's the liar now ??

It's the SECOND time in less than 24 hours that i prove you wrong when you pretend you didn't say something you, in fact, said.

When i said that politeness was for the bourgeoisie, i was talking about politically correctness politeness.

It's funny how you pretend to defend PC but you insult all the time. Nothing new, we all know you are so contradictory anyway..

You are still lying, you said I called you a "fake anarchist" because you aren't politically correct. You quoted what I said, and when did i say that??! Truth is I DIDN'T! I asked you were you not politically correct, that's all! So actually, I haven't been lying...why would I bother?!

Lol, politically correct politeness. that doesn't make sense!!...I was saying stop using insults like "stupid" and to be more polite...and you said politeness is for the beourgeoisie! Where is the "politically correct politeness" in that....?

"Politically correct" is just a phrase invented by bigoted right wing pundits to make is seems as though they're the ones being oppressed. It's a completely misleading phrase which gives the impression that there's some sort of government tribunal dictating what you can and can't say. Horse shit. Political correctness doesn't exist.

Ooh, yeah, I agree there. It's basically just simple politeness in my opinion. I'm not going to call someone overweight a fat-ass, that's just rude. There's no PC crap, it's just called "don't be a dick to people." If I see someone with a republican t-shirt, I'm not going to call them a conservative twat (even if that's what I think they are) and I should hope that they wouldn't call me a radical faggot (even if that's what they think I am.) Jesus, I think a lot of people just don't quite understand basic politeness. Politeness is not some way capitalism is keeping us down, that's something that has always bothered me about anarcho-punk society, sometimes I feel like people are crass just for the sake of being crass. I'm all for using impoliteness as a political vehicle for your views, but sometimes it just becomes rude. And why do you need to be rude?

And, I'd just like to say, since really becoming a communist, I can say, that I've just become more polite. By ignoring class stratification, it went from just being nice to those higher than me on the ladder, to just being nice to everyone.
