anti flag good or bad?

Yeah, unfortunately I think it's over. I'm friends with him on Facebook, and a couple weeks ago he posted a status update that hinted that it's probably done for good, and not just on another hiatus: "If I was still doing NN2S, the joke today would have been Liam Neeson shouting "RELEASE THE MCCRACKINS," and then a couple guys dressed as eggs in battle. You should thank me for sparing you."

Yeah, I used to check NN2S at least a couple times a week. I gave up a while back, though, when it seemed he'd stopped updating basically everything. Good to hear he's still around in general, though- I had wondered what he was up to...

 

I love that site, not because I listen to BR but simply because it exists. Anyway, I knew what you were referring to, I think someone a while back mentioned something about a comic or picture they had seen of a physical BR dictionary and a guy at a library, and that was who I was replying to. I should've been more specific.

 

That may be true but if I get enjoyment out of one thing that may be shit to another, I don't really care to be honest. As long as I am enjoying whatever it is I am listening to then I don't really care.

Was never a fan,Nothing personal..the music was just too clean and it wasn't my style. I like my punk raw,dirty & not on MTV.

 

The Damned were also on TV before the Pistols (1 day i believe - although not totally sure - memory very hazy - but we couldnt get the Pistols on Grundy in our area so to me The Damned were the first on TV - They played New Rose on a prog called Get It Together) and they were the first UK punk band to tour the US and funnily also the 1st UK punk band to split up and the 1st to reform - Just thought i woulld add this for you punk history buffs

 

I like "Die For Your Government" and "Underground Network", but they are by no means a favourite, and I tend to like my stuff harder edged anyways...

 

Lol I backed and lost all my shit. Anyways what I said was. Anti-Flag are no better than Greenday And Billys guy linner. The fallowing fail becuz these reasons.
Misfits = Jerry Lonely
Adicts = Kid D.
Exploited = Wattie (Had a great run. Till Fuck the System)
Casualties = They are rich as fuck. And dress like they are poor. At least I have reasons to dress the way I do. I am poor and its my choice to look this way (Contradiction)
And well.....thats it man. I think we need all predateing Fuck the System on here. Or Fuck the System. DOnt give 2 shits. Hell its punk. Someone likes it. Apart of being a Punk is haveing new ideas. And doing what you want. And fuck what anyone thinks. That means other Punks and Skins 2. Who are we to judge? I mean look at us Ha. I bravo for all the bands who do what they want. And what they like. But boo them for being greedy. Posers lol. Like I said tho who am I to judge? Just my openion.

PS I forgot to rip on Rancid......thats self explanitory. They have some good bands on Hellcat Records. To bad they sighned to Armstrongs empire of lies and greed.

 

I really like Anti-Flag and don't mind their history with major labels etc. because of the following reasons:

-They don't claim to be anarchist, or that they are really hardcore punkdudes of any sort.
-They got some of the best basslines I ever heard
-They are really great live, always stay around to hang with fans, and invite charities at their shows
-They actually went back to an indipendent label even tho they could make more money and get more airtime by staying on the major label.
-Even when they were on the major label, they didn't change their message, but actually included an even bigger booklet with all sorts of informatipon and fact sheets about political issues, very important for new fans who don't know a damn thing about this world. Also, their own label A-F records would still manage interviews and shows, however, they were deluded in that, and the major label ended up doing more than just distribution, which is also a reason the quit.
-They get new people into punk. Obscure bands just shouting in an empty void, or with only people who allready are politcally conscience doesn't help, you need gateway bands like AF

Also, re: The Exploited; since they were never truly an anarchist band by way of ideology, their albums don't fit with the mandate of the site, which is of course to disseminate anarchist punk music that is otherwise hard to find. They were a band with a racist lead singer, and whose songs (despite appearances) were not overtly political. So, not a great fit for an anarchist site. The Punks-and-skins site probably have copies of every Exploited album, if you're looking.

 

I have to post this, because I will shamelessly admit I like anti-flag. I not only dig a poppier punk song every now and then, but when I crave so, I can actually listen to lyrics I agree with. I'm quite aware of their sellout-ness, but like has been stated before, they are good transition music for newbies, similar to PETA with vegans. Besides, though they might be a bit corporate, the irony is that they preach against corporatism, so they're using corporate cash to fuck companies over in a sense. Similar to Morgan Spurlock's new movie. But excuse me, now I am drunk rambling, but somehow this song moves me in way no other true anarcho-punk song can.

Also, this album wasn't released on a corporate record label, as was their last one, though the money made might have been used to formulate their independent label.

It's not an "excuse" it's a "reason". Don't load your language. Chumbawamba said something as a response to opinions like this... I'm paraphrasing slightly, but "we realised that to be on One Little Indian or to be on EMI was irrelevant. Either way, we were being exploited by capitalists. Once we moved, the difference was that we were being exploited by a more efficient bunch of capitalists." Just because somebody's on an independent, that doesn't make them more of a punk, more of an activist, or more of an anarchist- look at Fat Wreck Chords- "independent" for years and still host to about the biggest bunch of apolitical cash-in pop groups in any punk scene.

On the matter of whether or not "independent" labels and "corporate" labels are really that different, I leave you with Jeff Rosenstock's position:
