Yo I wrote this a few weeks ago but the post fucked up and never posted so I finally got the energy to re do this.

I searched and there is no topic about ska music and what people think of it. I’m going to say this right away just to cut the head off of this part of the thread. I’m not talking about ska core bands. Like reel big fish or big d and the kids table to any of that. I’m talking about like ska but more of a punk mix to it. Bands like...

    Against All Authority
    Alleyway Sex
    Atrocity Solution
    Evil Empire

That was just to name a few...kind of like punk but throw in some horns some upbeat rhythms? Personally... I really like a lot of the time when a song has an upbeat sound going. Then it turns into a rougher intense sound maybe with a good heavy breakdown or like when the chorus goes heavy. I like the change between the two and it feels like I’m getting both worlds. It depends how I feel sometimes I feel like easier listening. But I get bored of it and when they change it up it’s like a new song almost. If you get what I mean.

Then of course there is the whole crack rock steady style. but if were gunna talk about this lets try and keep it not about how everyone hates left over crack sell out this and that wtv your beef is. just because I don’t want the thread really going to that and following the same arguments that have been gone over several times already on the forum. Maybe talk about choking victim or morning glory? I’ll start off by saying I’m down for the whole crack rock steady music. It has become over played and annoying so I don’t listen to them much but you can’t deny its good music? What about the new band? Star fucking hipsters? Any one a fan? Personally I’m not really diggin it. But it’s an alright listen they have a few pretty decent songs....

Then there are bands that I have trouble putting a genra on to it. Bands like
    Beng Beng Cocktail
    Canon Law
    The Stupid Stupid Henchmen

Beng beng is a more unplugged sounding band with a lot of acoustics and basic music but I’m pretty down. They are from France I think and are pretty cool. I got a buddy who featured on a song by them. If you don’t know them it’s worth checking out.

Canon law is a very out there band... most don’t like them I love them. First heard them while I was on acid and it blew my mind. They are like an electro/ska/grind band I guess. I have never really heard anything like them. Maybe someone else would be able to categorise them better. I wanna know what you think of them if you have time to check em out.

the stupid stupid henchmen arent so out there as the other 2 bands but it’s like a ska beat most of the time with harsh singing and just pissed off sounding. I really like them. They fit very nicely into what I really like about good ska music. And I would suggest them to anyone who is interested in what I can call intense ska? I unno working title hahahahaha

Dancehall Satan is a good ska punk band with a crust somewhere in there, but they are influenced by the whole "satan worshipping to offend people" like what Choking Victim and L.O.C. did.
Another good Ska punk band is Assorted Jelly Beans-more Third Wave Ska from Riverside,CA so its kinda poppy but its worth a listen

I can only seem to be getting into local ska bands - i love them though, and it's a really cool genre. Perfect for a party, yet with meaning.

I have to check out some more of the bigger ska bands, i can't be right that i don't really like all of them.

Love it. Some personal favs include The Selecter, The Specials, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris, Kicked in the Head, Against All Authority, Less than Jake, Mustard Plug, etc., etc. There are also quite a few notable punk bands who've incorporated ska beats into their music to varying degrees like Op Ivy, Rancid, Choking Victim, Offspring, etc.

I personally love it, adds a bit more creativity to some of the more generic punk songs.

Here is a great Bulgarian band called Switchstance,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0cuOtrIZPk

The vocals can get a bit weird but the music is awesome. Enjoy.

Some bands/artists I'd recommend from each era would be:

1st wave: Toots And The Maytals, The Ethiopians, Desmond Dekker, Symarip, The Paragons, Don Drummond, Tommy Mccook, Max Romeo.

Trojan box sets are good for first wave I found.

2nd wave/two tone: The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners, The (English) Beat, The Selector.

3rd wave + Ska-core:(Early) Less Than Jake (later stuff is more like pop rock with horns), Operation Ivy, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Big D And The Kids table, Reel Big Fish, Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, Capdown, Public Access, The Skints, Detached, Random Hand, Dirty Revolution, Smoke Like A Fish, The Toasters, Fandangle, Sonic Boom Six, [Spunge], Choking Victim, No Commercial Value, Against All Authority, No Cash, The Stupid Stupid Henchmen, Citizen Fish, Arrogant Songs Of Bitches, Bomb The Music Industry! (ish), Sublime, The Suicide Machines, The Rudiments, (Early) Aquabats, Skankin' Pickle, The Chinkees, I Voted For Kodos, Mustard Plug, The King Blues, Voodoo Glow Skulls.

Haven't read through the thread yet so you might all know these bands already.
