im just realllllly super happy that there is no smoking in bars and resturants and public places. buildings used to get so smoky you could not breath it was so bad. well atleast when i was younger it was hell. but now im happy i dont have to sit in a dirty hotbox of smoke that does not make me high while i drink.

I mostly smoke local grown stuff which solves the 'paying bastard corporations to kill me' problem. Also cheap, like 4 euro bag last me over two weeks, maybe 200g, not sure. They hide it under counter though, so I thinking maybe it aint exactly legal. Anyway, I going to try growing my own this season.

hmm fun fact. here in montreal we blew a boat load of money building the olimpic stadium. the stadium now sits unused and a hunk of junk with a roof that does not open(its supposed to open) and decaying everything from lack of upkeep. it was recently paid off using the taxes from all the packs of smokes sold here. thats how much money they make. they were able to pay off a multi million dollar sports stadium using the just the taxes from people buying smokes. imagin if they put that money into building shelters and other social programs to help the people. but no. they wanted to pay it off so they can blow it up. since it sits unused and to expensive to use the city determined it would be best to blow it up. its not like we have a baseball team anymore. what a wast when it styarted and it continues toio be a wast pof money even after years and years.

ya thats illigal here...the tobacco buisness is all privateized and goverment taxed that home made stuff is illigal to sell. thats why the native smokes are not allowed off the reserves. since they are sold with out any taxes to the goverment

The federal government in Australia just hiked the tobacco prices up something chronic as another tax thing. They are also banning the sale of packets and pouches of tobacco bearing the brand logo and colours. The packs will have the amount of ciggies written on them and the brand written on the bottom of the graphic photo health warning. So if you smoke Winfield Blue for example you will only be able to tell the brand and type by the name on the pack and not the logo.

I remember Snus. Had a Swedish dude in our class in high school who somehow managed to get shitloads of the stuff sent over here. We used to have it in French class and everybody else (including the teacher) was none the wiser although having the bin next to us all the time to spit was a little suss. It was hilarious because the nicotine rush was way more intense and I would have to sit down for a minute before I got up and did anything else. Tastes fucking rank though.

I completely agree the Department of alcohol cigarettes and firearms profits so much of corporate tobacco. American Spirit is owned by the same people who own all the cigarette companys. If you really want to still smoke and not support the company's grow your own tobacco or by from someone who grows there own.

That's why you don't quit cold turkey. All smokers, all "real" smokers share certain traits, an oral fixation, tobacco stains, etc., but they are also very ritualistic. There is the start-the-day-cigarette, there is the right-before-bed cigarette, etc. What you need to do is figure out which of these is most important. Then eliminate one a week. Also, switch brands, preferably more than once, and don't give up the first time. Just like in the Matrix; 'nobody makes it the first time.'
However, you try a number of times and eventually, if you stick with it, you manage a week, then a months, and, I'd say, after about a month you're pretty much in the clear. You're body starts to change and eventually cigarettes will make you sick like the first one. After that, you're home free.

I been smoking 30 years, tried to quit plenty times, managed over month few times. I actually think cold turkey is best, worst of physical withdrawal is gone after couple weeks, but that's when it really gets difficult, and your mind starts play tricks on you. I think, really, you just gotta really want to quit. What always got me in the end is I start thinking people pushed me into it really, and like, fuck em.

same here. i tried the cutting back ways. never worked i was back to a pack a day in no time. quiting cold turkey is the only way. you just gota realise you control your brain it does not control you. it say hey smoke a cig man we just finished eating. you need to be strong enough to think and remember im not smoking so i cant. i remember lying on the floor in crazy cold sweats and i was having an axiety attack. but that reinforment to keep not smoking since you have gone that far. eventualy they get shorter and less frequent. the worst for me were the dreams. oh my fuck. thats when your brain has free reign over you and its tough. i would be in a bar filled with people smoking talking about smoking trying to give me a smoke. god it was the worst. wake up sweating like crazy.

but i found it helps to keep asking people for smokes and if they give you one you say noooooo. and eventualy every one remember and they wont give you a smoke. and it helps confidence. to be able to say no. trust me i think thatys what got me through those horrible times. ALSO at the start i would put a bit of tobacco in my doobs. just a sprinkle. and after a while i just cut it out completly. but that klinda makes the quiting part a bit longer.

im happy now i have been smoke free for around a year and 5 months. i still want to smoke...but im over it. i know if i ever take one more puff im screwed.

Its been over 10 years for me now, and i know what your saying. I smoked one or two over the ten years to remind me of what i was missing, and it was gross and unpleasent (and harsh... kind of like when you start smoking) and i was glad to no longer be a smoker.

The worst for me when i first quit was driving. I was so used to smoking while driving, that I would zone out pretty hard, I chewed lots of gum, that also helped me quit (not nico gum, just regular good ol trident.)

ya school was brutal. i would carpool every day for 45 mins with two chain smokers. them being considerate of my feeling. told me they were going to smoke just as much and i should get bent. it was hell at first but it made me able to fight it. and after doobs or drinking those are tough times

Okay a few quick points from me :p
The ritual-thing is very true in my case. Switching brands I do on numerous occasions, depending on where I am at the time, I have a prefered brand, but no particular brand I always HAVE to smoke, also done things like scrape the buds out of the ashtray after I ran out of cash... now THAT was rancid and made me want to quite smoking like a MOTHERFUCKER.
As for the month thing, I guess that could be true, I usually last about 3 to close to 4 weeks without nicotine.

After smoking for 6 years not once did I ever find nicotine stains on my fingers. I used to smoke packet smokes (tailor mades) and rollies (hand rolled by moi and I still roll fucking great ones even though I don't smoke).

I had the following: a bit of a cough, shortness of breath, smell of smoke, used to get colds like a motherfucker and like Bill Hicks said, you can bitch about all the secondary smoke but if there is not cigarette in my mouth there will be a hail of bullets coming from my general direction.

Happy I gave up though....cold turkey cos I ran out of money, now I just can't be bothered but I have kept my Zippo lighter :)
