In the context of the song it's actually the singer being referred to as that. He's going through the shit that people call him and say to him before rebutting with the "not a loser" part. Some lesbian friends of mine used to sing this quite rowdily but changing the line to "let's fist fuck" he's mimicing the jerks who use that kind of language, calling them out for their stupidity. Or at least that's what I heard, although considering the ties to Black Flag, a band known for homophobic rants, i wouldn't be surprised either way.

Punkmar, I hope i didn't give the impression that i was endorsing ANY kind of homophobic behaviour, I just love the descendents and always thought that song got misrepresented. I'd be right there with OP calling that jerk out for his stupid bigotry.

    Wow, what a stupid answer.

Even punks have ethics. Why do you think it's not appropriated to see a punk waving a national flag ? why do you think it's not appropriate for a punk to have a swastika t-shirt ? Why do you think it's not appropriate to be pro-government ?

You sound like one of those 15 years old who think punk is about not giving a fuck about anything and doing whatever you want because it's so cool and provocating.

If we insult your religion you make a big drama, and if we insult homosexuals you don't care. That's so stupid.

No, the appropriate word is an homosexual

That's like saying you can be sexist or be racist or be anti-semitist only with peoples who tolerate it / are confortable with it.

Is being called a nigger when you are a black person really offensive ? Same thing.

Anyway, why call someone about his sexuality ? Sexual orientation is a personnal thing, if you want to talk to someone call him by his name not his sexual orientation or his skin color.

your dumb..if i was going to make a "slur" i would have picked somthing a bit better..its somthing i saw on a site and i found funny and i use every day and has nothign to do with anythign gay. the site is http://encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Wikipedia . and earlyer some one was sayign peopel who are not tottaly outraged prolly dont have gay friends. i have a shit ton of gay freidns. the majrity of people on my street are gay and i go to the guys house almost every day to chill. more then half my friends are gay. i go with them to gay bars just to drink. so trust me. i have 0 problems with a gay person any day. they are just people. but i just feel liek you just proved that people get huffy puffy(better or is this mean to fat people?) and its liek what will getting mad at this do really. i know makign fun of people is not cool. but you dont have to get all outraged over 1 word..

go ahead dont support what i say. im still going to say it. these words are only bad words as long as your support them. the word nigger is only offensive if you let it be offensive. if you make it offensive. if you hear it. and get mad then the person job is done. if you hear it and dont take it so personal then the person is defeted before you even have to say a word. people just have to stop being hyper sensitive. these are the pety little things that stops people from getting along.

isent every swear word originaly made to be offensive to some one? but when you hear some one call some one a bitch do you rise to arms liek your doign now? or if some one says cunt? do all the chicks in the room stand up? or the word mother fucker. do you get all mad and say i dont fuck my mother!....no because they have been used so much they have become desensitsed and are now part of common word culture.

in the end. im not defending the guy or the word just that some times its juts dumb to get all mad over such small pointless thigns. when there is true homophobia going on worse then a singer for some band no one has heard of saying fags....

You're blaming the victim here. The reason people are assuming that you don't have queer friends (which I haven't, btw) is that you don't seem to understand that a lot of queer folks experience very real prejudice and violence in their every day lives as a result of their sexual orientation/gender presentation. This is not an issue of being "offended by a word." The word is just another symptom of the larger framework of oppression that some people have to navigate every day. You're talking about taking someone's very identity, turning it into an insult and then saying it's their fault for being (hypersensitive/thin-skinned/insert other feminizing marginalization here) enough to not be cool with that.

If nothing else, think about this: instead of getting mad and arguing with about why we're out of line for caring about this, why don't you consider the fact that there's a 5:1 ratio of people in this thread who have expressed that they feel hurt by racist, sexist and homophobic slurs. Maybe we're not your local scene, but we're a pretty good cross section of a lot of different scenes. Understand that a clear majority here (and probably in your local scene too, even if they feel too silenced to stand up and say so) feels attacked by that kind of language. Whether or not you understand why or think we have a right to feel that way, just ask yourself what the point of deliberately hurting all those people is.

Relax I was joking, I don't even want to read that response.

I was being slightly ironic on the subject of racial slurs and no longer supporting bands.

ok, if u are white, trying saying that word to a black person and see if they are not letting themselves be offended by it.

It's not ok, but if you are going to continue to use homophobic words and defend them, go ahead, you are a fool if u say you care about human rights.

Always bothered me that there not much black in punk, gay and female minority too, I mean I met a few, but never someone that all three. Not sure what can be done about that but anyway, on offensive words, if someone tell you something is offensive, you can be pretty sure it is, there no argument. Everyone arguing against, you just fucking idiots.

na whats getting argued about or atleast what im seeing is the word fag. and how it is used so lightltly these days and does not have the same meaning, i was talking to a few of my gay friends the other day about this and they all seemed to come to the same solution. the word fag they said is only offensive to them if they are being personally called out and its ovisly directed at them as an insult. but the casule use of the word they all agreed it has morphed into the same area as the words asshole or jerk and other names along those lines. all 4 of them all agreed that its not somthing to get all mad about. but its still can be used in a hateful way.

It's weak to be so hurt by common insults that have been around so long that they're loosely connected to the original meaning.

It's also very super cool to never get insulted by anything and to point out how weak those are who doesn't like being called something that can clearly be insulting and hurtfull.

well since 4 whole people you know said this, then it must be true. So i guess people who get offended by words like nigger, kyke, spade, spic, junglebunny, carpetmuncher, fudgepacker, towel-head, sand-nigger, jesus-killer, mics, krauts, pollocks, beaners, oreos, zebras, redskins, heebs, gardeners, wetbacks, day-go's, wops, butt-munchers, etc. need to just get over themselves too because 4 of your friends say they are wrong to be offended by such words?

i'll be honest here. I call kids i don't like fags. when someone does something stupid or inconsiderate I'll say "that was fucking gay". obviously I don't mean homosexual. i'm not an idiot so i don't have problems with homosexuals and treat them as i would anyone else. i'm not gonna change my lexicon because someones getting offended. fuck PC bullshit.
