I just thought maybe we should have a thread to discuss bullying and sharing a few experiences ourselves?

Me; in case you didn't know I am of Sri Lankan background and in Australia we are commonly mistaken to be Indians/Pakistanis. As you probably know there is alot of racism towards Indians in Australia right now and a few years (maybe months) ago a beer advertisement was made in which Indians are insulted a bit, not really a big deal, but the people in my school started to pick no me because of this...

Me not being Indian and all made me think that this was pretty unfair.
I used to go to a catholic school (yea...) and the teachers there are so busy praying to their phoney baloney God that they didnt care about bullying or anything.
I am also a pretty weak and not so well-built person so I couldn't do anything about it and my parents also didnt really give a fuck so I had to take the crap until that school was closed down for some other reason.

Would you care to share a few stuff yourself?

(btw I only went to a catholic school because my parents thought it would be better...but they were wrong...)

oh and another thing...I just got a sudden pop-up in my computer and it had a link to website...In the website there was a pretty disturbing video of a baby sitter abusing a toddler, maybe you should check it out and comment

hmm i have been bullied a few times but in the end i over came them by force or they would get bored. but i alwase remerber my first time hahahaha. i was in grade one and it was my birthday. i got sick of this kid pushign me down the ice hill before i got to the top. so when he tried to do it again i grabbed his arm as he tried to push me and i pulled him donw and smashed his face into the ice a few times. i broke his nose and gave him 2 black eyes. the elementary school did not know what to do with me so they gave me detention and hoped my perents would take care of it. but me dad said good job and my mom was liek not good but thats about the only trouble i got into.

another time i just flat out pushed the guy over a desk told him if he touched me again i would kill him. never did again. hahah

pretty much you dont have to be big at all to stand up to a person. they are ussuly cowards who will not want to fight. so u slap em around a bit they might scurry or they might coem back hard. so best bet would be to hit em hard right at first stun em a bit.but dont ever let any one pick on you. its so demening,

I was bullied a lot in elemenatry school, it went on for ten years, then i changed school and moved away. I was in lots of fights from i was six, and it never seemed to end. The only times i got left alone for a while was after fighting guys a couple years older then me. It was the other girls that did most of the bullying but when i hit some of them that just got me in more trouble. No matter how much trouble i got in i never changed to fit their ideals though, i kept true to what i believed in no matter how stupid it could seem. I was a hell of a stubborn girl!
I can't say i'm greatful or nothing but in the end i think i came out stronger then they will ever be, all those morons who were all just going along with the namecalling and outfreezing and all of that shit. I have met a few later, they seem to be just about the same.
What i find to be strange looking back at it now, is that no adults at school tried to help in any way, they just yelled at me or sent me home when i had been in a fight.

I wasnt "bullied" per-se, i was made fun of and all that but i dont see that as bullying, ive always been a bigger guy so i never got into any real fights (plus im a lover not a fighter!), and i usually stuck up for others a lot. Bullying will never disappear, it will always be there, its how you teach your children (if you have any) to deal with it, and how to treat other people really.

First off, Probe, sorry you had to go to catholic school, i can't imagine the stuff they must of tried to ram down your throat about their "god".
I got bullied a lot in middle and high school. As Anom said, girls do a lot of bullying, sometimes for no reason. I never had a physical fight, but i remember a lot of backstabbing, name calling, and mostly people making up shit about one another. I got picked on a lot for how i dressed and for being outspoken. To make things worse, i lived in a town full of religious kids who just didn't like me because i was outspoken about being an atheist ( needless to say i didn't have a lot of friends there). I guess the best advice is just never give in to their shit and ignore them, if the best way they can fill their time is by making comments about you then they must not have much else going on.
I do think its funny that all of a sudden that adults and schools really care about bullying on myspace/facebook/etc. They never seem to notice when its right in there face but they're up in arms about it when its online. (i know that people have killed themselves do to it, but still don't parents and teachers know that it happens at school as well?)

Bullying is a basic thing in every school, it really isn't a big matter since its just a phase in your life which will soon pass by, everyone gets bullied, it's pretty much unavoidable unless you're the bully.

Just be glad razor blades and even pencil sharpener razors (yes, pencil sharpener razors) aren't used at your school. It's pretty shocking when you see kids getting fucked up by razor blades from a petty dispute over a girl in a Catholic school "where love one another" is a common motto.

I don't really think everyone gets bullied, picked at a bit maybe, but there are definately different degrees to it. Not everyone will have to stand in a corner eating lunch cos if they sit down they will get shit in form of words, food thrown at them or things taken from them. Not everyone will get thrown spiders and trash at in the school bus. Not everyone will be forced in to fighting.
It is a phase in your life that passes by, sure, but school lasts for a long time and it won't feel like it passes by soon in any way if you're getting bullied every day.

What I was focusing on was a bit of humiliation in the form of words or even physical humiliation which is hard to avoid. Sure not everyone, I was just generalizing, it can depend on the society, the class, yourself and many other factors.

Bullying can alter a kid's personality and lower his self-esteem, it tends to dramatically change a kid's character into becoming a "wuss" if he is constantly being picked at. Although I agree that school is a long time, I don't see adults bullying each other.

Anyway, it's sad how a person spends around 24 years studying (with Uni) to allow himself to work for another 30 years or so, the guy spends half of his life studying, with the other half working, what a waste.

Adult bullying isn't as uncommon as we might want to think, it just takes a bit different forms and is called harassment. In a lot of workplaces, the old bullies are still the same, but they now do it less obvious. I've had some of it but i know people that's been getting a lot of it and even if many people grow out of their unpleasant ways, there are still way too many that keep their old habbits.
Now i might seem like i'm just overly sensitive or that i want you to feel sorry for me or something but believe me, that's not why i'm writing this; it's for those who might have to deal with it all the time in school or at work and are already used to noone taking it serious. As long as bullying in school is seen as something that will pass on it's own, the bullies will never learn and they won't stop treating others bad.

Bullied every fucking day in 6 years, threatened, beaten, giving a face-wash with shattered glass, beaten with objects, kicked out a tooth and the outcast of the town and bullied for years by my fucking hypocrite teacher.

And still, i'm doing better than those losers doing it!

i never let any one get as far as really bullie me. i was ussuly able to beat them in word fights and if they tried physicle i would not let them. i would not alwase win and would get shit kicked out of me. but i would come back and fight him again the next day. it does not take long for them to stop coming back. then eveentualy no one really tried to bully me. but i was ussuly pretty good freinds with people by then. i am a very outgoign person when makign friends. its easy to be a friend then a enemy

I'm not bullied at all but I am a loner and lately the stress of a 7.5 hour school day has been killing me from the inside out. Yesterday evening I snapped and told my parents that I am not meant to live in a flourecent hell for the next 12 years of my life. I just want to be left to my own devices. Thoreau please save me from this mundane industrial existence.

Well, it's a strange subject... I was always a kind of an outsider in life. That was true for school and later university, and in many ways it's genraly true today... Yes, I was made fun of quite a bit in school and still am sometimes. Was a few times physically abused by older kids, but also got into my share of fights and won more than I lost. Looking back some parts of hightschool felt really boring and lonely, but as much as I feel some part of my schoolyears was bad most of it was ok...
