ANGELIC UPSTARTS are an English punk rock band formed in South Shields in 1977. They are one of most prominent Oi! bands, and espouse a socialist and working class philosophy which later inspired bands such as: Strawman, Red London or Redskins . Angelic Upstarts have been associated with anti-fascist skinhead subculture. More than two decades after its release, their debut single, "The Murder Of Liddle Towers", was included in Mojo magazine’s list of the best punk rock singles of all time. The original line up for the band was Mensi (vocals), Mond (guitar), Steve Forsten (bass) and Decca Wade (drums). The band have reformed and split a few times over the years and some of the ex members include bass players, Ronnie Wooden, Glyn Warren, Tony Feedback, Ronnie Rocker and Max Splodge who also had a stint playing drums. Other drummers have included Sticks (who later joined The Cockney Rejects), Paul Thompson (ex Roxy Music) and Chris White. Decca Wade rejoined the band for a few years before leaving again. Brian Hayes originally joined the band as second guitarist until Mond left leaving Brian as the only guitarist. Former guitarist Tony Van Frater died on 29 October 2015. Dickie Hammond died two days later. On 22 February 2021, former member Tony Morrison died after contracting COVID-19. Thomas Mensforth died on 10 December 2021, aged 65, after also being infected with COVID-19.

Mensi and the boys have been doing their thing since I can remember. A social conscience and delivering the message of the working class. True to their roots.

DEFINATLY not anarchist, are you crazy ? Do you think an anarcho band would make an album with a cover of one of the picture of one of the person who murdered the most anarchists, opened the first goulags, and led the first repression against russian anarchists ?

Hmmmm.............fair point but....i don't think you can accuse the Upstarts of being Leninists or apologists for the Bolshevics . I think the cover is merely an anti -capitalist image .This is the problem with all schisms. Be it Socialist, christian whatever .They all think thiers is tjhe right road .

They are definatly red communists with leninist tendencies, they support the Red Action and IRA, they are definatly not anarchists...

Socialists who support armed revolution hahah.... i'd say they are definatly communists, but the point was that they are NOT anarcho

There are hundreds of other ways of representing anti-capitalism other than a lenin image....

Are they ? I think (know) not . Mensi is very anti communist ( unless in recent times he's had a major shift ) , Pro IRA ? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.refer you to my previous answer . Anyway ,is it wrong to (tactically) to support anything that pushes capital to it's enevitable end ?
See , here's the problem : What's Anarcho ? Is this something different from Anarchism ? The doctrine of the socialist Bukanin .
Communism and Anarchism it's the same end game .
