lol... i still laugh when i think about NOFX doing the album Liberal Animation (animal liberation) which bagged on vegetarians and vegans mercilessly... and late fat mike actually became a vegetarian... so basically all his credibility was lost right there. he made fun of something he didn't understand, then accepted those ideals after making a spectacle of it, making himself look lie a fool.

I don’t think that was really as much of a statement as it’s made out to be, much more, say, than “Heavy Petting Zoo” is an endorsement of bestiality. NOFX are a goofy band, they make a joke out of everything. I’ve seen this in people, this guy I sed to hang out with in high school was a real cut up, always joking around, it seemed like it was almost painful for him to talk serious. That’s sort of the impression I get from Fat Mike and NOFX, the lyrics belie a greater intelligence than what’s on the surface. A comparison to the Ramones is apt. Like the Ramones, (Or Screeching Weasel, The Queers, The Dickies, etc.) NOFX is playing dumb. They also don’t stop at political lines, they occasionally make fun of certain elements on the left, like in “The Marxist Brothers.” At the end of the day, though, they do have a clear left sensibility; they just don’t define everything by politics like Anti-Flag or Bad Religion. I think that’s misplaced. While successful, NOFX are and always will be an indie band, Fat Wreck helps younger, unknown bands to make records, get noticed, etc. Not to mention PunkVoter, and “Rock Against Bush!” 1&2. I think NOFX deserve more credit.
I like NOFX's older stuff, it sounds good to me, they were actually one of the first bands i heard that were "punk" back in the day, that helped me get turned onto it.
I don't think it's punk or un-punk. I don't see that it applies. I think it's good that they are encouraging young people to vote and be politically active and conscious. It shows that they have a social conscience, but I don't think it has anything to do with being punk or otherwise.
