Punk Show Etiquette

I tend to just stand as close as I can to the stage without getting in anyone's way or the pit's way.
Sometimes just on the side of the pit.
I tend to get pushed backwards as the night goes on, though, 'cause I'm kind of shy, and don't want to get in anyone's way if they want to stand in front of me.
I never drink, or anything, because I don't believe in having an altered state of mind, and I have a terrible drug tolerance. (Even caffeine, it's terrible.)
I tend to always go with somebody. Because I'm shy like that.
I loosen up a little after a while, though.
And between sets, I go to the washroom to cool down, generally.

 

I normally stand in the back having beers with the rest of the bootboys (and girls), nodding my head (out of tune). If it's a band I really like I'll join the pit, I can stand my ground, but I'll normally then just stand with my arms around a friend yelling at the band.

I can't stand people that don't get the "pit etiquette" and think it's just a way to hit people without them hitting back.

 

I'm usually the biggest guy in there and I dance and try to have a great time and I am always mindful of smaller people and females, and always always pick people up 'cuz that was what was done to me when I was a kid. Last Fri. we were supposed to play but our Bass player Cherry Pits had to be taken to the hospital on the day of the show!!! So I got jumped by some skinhead kids but they couldnt manage any damage and they felt pretty stupid and apologized when they got chewed out by their older friends. I hope it doesn't happen again though, I might not be so charitable next time.

 

depends on the band. If people start hyperactive pits just for the sake of it, even f the band is slow (sludge, dub) then i tend to refrain from the macho shoving. Dont mind going to shows on my own if i really wanna see the band. local shows just show up, drink sum cider with friends ,and have a laugh. Got no set stereotypical thing il stick to at all shows though.

 

The CT scene doesn't have too many problems with over violent assholes in the pit, so for me I stand around till I feel like jumping in the pit or one of my buddies pulls me in.

 

I used to go into the pit all the time. Now I mostly just stand to the side or at the front, although I still go in from time to time.

Hmmm... depends, if i feel that people are being assholes like circle pitting really slowly or standing in front of the stage and then complain when people "bump" into them, then i purposely fuck with them.

I usually get involved or start the pits, im a pit guy and its a damn shame 99 percent of the shows anymore have none.

Ya that shits annoying i always pick people up even tho im just a kid but mostly cause people pick me up i remember this one time this rely buff skinhead was in the pit and he fell cause he was drunk and picked him up and his sweaty torso got all over me and i was covered in sweat just from picking him up

 

I love getting hit back, its when you bump into someone and they are just like EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW you touched me!! that pisses me off.

And all that ninja punching the sky and the floor crap is stupid as hell, im not into that, thats not my bag.

 

Thank you for being that guy. Seriously, if people would just be mindful of their size, everyone could mosh. I went to a show a few weeks ago where there was a super positive pit because the biggest guy in the room was going out of his way to include scrawny teengaers and 4'11" girls, 90 pound girls.

That said, I love to mosh. Almost moshed a tooth out last week, in fact, but I'd do it again for Question. They got a lotta heart. I mosh sober because, well, I do everything sober these days. I'm not heavy, but I am tall (around 6'2") and can definitely knock someone flat if I'm not paying attention. So when I'm moshing, I want to have my wits about me; that way no one gets hurt. I understand that people like to drink at shows, but I wish bigger guys would show some restraint if they know they're going to mosh. It seems like a little bit of consideration would go a long way towards making punk shows more inclusive.

 

I\m usually one of the most avid pitters, being 6"5 doesn't actually help either.
But I tend to try and take the other people's (usually smaller) smaller stature into account, though I don't tend to pull punchges, 'cause I just swing my arms and push people anyway. I don't really punch to begin with.

Well, it depends on the show, a lot of the time I like to come in close maybe jump a bit and carry stage divers, but sometimes I just stay at the back or work doors... When I was younger I used to mosh, but now I just don't want to take as many hits at a punk show. Where I come from moshing was limited to dancing and occasionally kicking. I don't understand people jumping around throwing punches, few times that I've seen it I thought it was really stupid and was even thought about stopping some people...

 

On nights when certain bands are playing, I go with friends and we all dance like the adorably dorky wankers we are, administering hugs and joining arms and singing and having an all-round good time (since we tend to stay local, there's plenty of love around even in the pit, if there is one).

On nights when there's a band playing who I'm taking photos/video for I'll be the guy intermittently crawling around the band, crouching behind the drummer, running beer orders to the bar and taking absolute advantage of the agility my scrawniness affords me to just appear places and suddenly be gone.

Either way, I always enjoy myself (maybe get a little drunk, especially when I'm taking photos) and my friends always look out for me as I look out for them, and we all know when someone's in a shitty mood and needs a friend, or just needs a hand up or to leave.
