Just curious to see how all the folks on this forum act at punk shows. Do you participate in the jock pit or are you at the sideline? Alone or with friends? To drink or not to drink? I tend to stay at the sideline with my arms crossed like a prententious dickhole because I understand how annoying the pit can be to those not in it (oh and its not helpful that I'm not assertive enough to keep people from taking me out and I'm light as a feather compared to the usual pit-dicks), other then that I usually go with one other person and stay sober. I just thought it would be interesting to associate the usernames of the visitors of this forum with the cast members of the stereotypical punk show.

if it's a band i really like, i will fight my way to the front of the stage and try to stay there for the duration. i dont do the pit, i don't drink either, and I have no problem going to shows alone. Of and sometimes i'll bring in a mini tape recorder to make a souvenir bootleg recording, but they usually sound so bad they are only of value to me as a reminder. If it's a place that allows it for free i'll bring a camcorder to tape it.

I'm usually the chick standing in back, beer in one hand, cigarette in the other, having a loud discussion with another punker about some thing or other.

Or if I've had a really bad week, and need to just lose myself for a bit, I'm the chick flying around the pit gasping for air and bouncing off the biggest person there. I think once or twice I've been used as a weapon. Nothing like landing boobs to face on a cute punkboy.

Do you participate in the jock pit or are you at the sideline? Alone or with friends? i'm usual alone as i'm terrible with time so arrive after ma mates or alone but usaully only for wanky banz spose, no matter if like music etc, participate when i want but its got fulla of 'jocks' who don't pick peepz up wen they're in that kinda deal, i just go harder if so but i tend not to rouse up, too much fun to be had,a good show won't attract nobeds, they get scared haha

To drink or not to drink? i don't drink for health but alot of people in the pit r pissed and the angreist r the sober hardcore kids or those 2 drunk to stand, they shud stand at the back 2, go figure, they don't bounce as much its retarded but a cool cat will say soz, the pit shud stay im the 'pit' and bystanders shud stand back, or the pit shud go to the back or stand on a fucking chair, its cyprical, u can always tell a real moron and even good guys can be dicks sometimes, go with it

no stereotypes, do what ya do and do it well, take photos etc

I'm usually either in or near the pit, depending how violent it is. I like to burn energy but sometimes it gets out of control yeah. Between acts I'm the one leaning against a wall by myself not drinking anything, heh.

i usually just stand on the outskirts of the pit and sometimes, on what Valsira said, i'll go into the pit depending on how violent it is. ill do what i can to go on the stage and start singing along with a local band then eventually jump back into the pit. just some random gibberish if i dont know the lyrics lol. also what i do is try to video record some songs in the show.

I don't really have a certain routine i do at shows, sometimes i drink sometimes I'm dead sober. Moshing is great stimulation if you're into the music but standing is always satisfying as well. all shows i've been to lately varied greatly on atmosphere and douchebaggery. even if theyre a real bust its good to see friends

I'm pretty weak compared to the others - but i tend to like the pit. Only exercise i get anyway.

    - Apart from that, i understand that the pit can be a pain in the ass, but also i find that i've been to many shows, where people's fear of going a little crazy just totally killed the mood. It's sad for the band, and for the scene - We don't want some scene where everybody just stands around and don't go wild and connect to the music, and we don't want a scene where everybody don't give a shit about each other and end up hurting someone.
    - So usually, i just go where my mood and the atmosphere of the show leads

I'm the annoying, loud, hyper-active punk guy who swings his arms in a drunken flurry in the pit (which has resulted in a KO for an innocent bystander last Friday, who I actually escorted outside and kept an eye on until I saw her fit enough to leave alone, btw) who leaves every now and then to have a smoke, joint, other assorted drug or a puke on the toilet.
That, or I'm the loud motherfucked up front who bellows all the lyrics he knows at the band (which usually isn't a lot).
I have no trouble going alone, as I know most of my mates'll show up anyway, but I usually make sure to meet them there or somewhere else beforehand to get decently drunk.
I usually excuse myself beforehand to anyone who knows I'll be present if I deem it appropriate and complain if the mosh pit was either TOO violent or too SOFT. I also usually 'ditch' my girlfriend (if I have one) as soon as I see a pit starting and explain that BEFORE I actually get to the show.
So yeah, I'm your stereotypical party punk, basically.

I'm usually drunk and stoned before the show even starts, half the time I'm the guy moshing to the first band, and bangin his head away. I'm the guy everyone puts their arm around to help keep themselves up and then smoke ganj with afterwards :p

When I say I stay sober I mean before/during the show. There's no guarantee that I won't go for a few rounds of weed after the fact. :D
however I hate alchohol. Maybe I'll develop a liking for it in my later years.

It should be noted however that I'm one of the guys that bumps into people regularly, but try and apologise each time.
I've got quite a few injuries in the pit, ranging from cracked nuts to bruised ribs and half-dislocated jaw.
I don't care with myself tho, but appreciate people apologising to me as well.
It should be good, clean fun. I actually lost a bit of tongue in one pit, trying to dodge a douchebag and landing with an open mouth on my mate's shoulder, but have also saved a 2-3 year old from being squashed by a falling mate.
I tend to pick people up if I come across them or try and keep them from falling completely, either that or stumbling over them and falling myself.
A good pit is one that's just violent enough to get minor injuries (small bruises or cuts) but not violent enough to get things broken regularly or being stomped on when falling down, in my opinion. It shouldn't be a free for all brawl, but a sort of pubescent play-fighting.
