The Damned are classic punk, Just Can't Be Happy Today is a great song.

Haven't heard enough AFI or AT to judge.

Was never a big fan of the celtic-punk stuff, but DKM is pro-Union and that's a big plus in my book.

 

They all suck, their music sucks, their style sucks, their faces suck, you suck.

 

Actually Jet Boy Jet Girl was done originally by a french band.

And someone mentioned Oi Polloi being a Celtic band... Well they did do a Celtic album... but over all they are an anarch-oi band, and not really a traditional Celtic band, that would be like calling Chumbawamba a Celtic band because they did a bunch of songs about Ireland. I think for a band to be called a Celtic band they would have to be a band whose sound is based around traditional Celtic music, like the Pogues or Flogging Molly.

Also someone mentioned the Damned being too slow... I guess fair enough by today's standards, however when they released Damned Damned Damned some critics accused them of speeding up the tape because "no one could possibly play that fast", though in their later years they did slow down a lot.

 

I always laughed at that comment. Even in 1977, it wasn't THAT fast. Sure, it was faster than the prog, pub, and arena rock of the time, but there were jazz drummers from the same period who had parts in their songs that were a hell of a lot faster than any punk bands back then (even now, for the most part). So it's not like the album was INCONCEIVABLY FAST. Makes me wonder what those critics thought when they heard bands like Napalm Death and the Electro Hippies.

If I remember correctly off punk77.co.uk Jet Boy Jet Girl was transferred to Plastic Bertrand's ça plane pour moi.

 

"Jet Boy, Jet Girl" is a risqué song by Elton Motello about a 15-year-old boy's sexual relationship with an older man, who then rejects him for a girl. With its chorus of "ooh ooh ooh ooh, he gives me head," it has been embraced as something of a gay punk anthem.

"Jet Boy, Jet Girl" has the same backing track as Plastic Bertrand's "Ça Plane Pour Moi"; after "Jet Boy Jet Girl" was recorded, Bertrand used Motello's musicians to record his track. The producer and lyricist at RKM Publishing at the time deemed the original song's lyrics too controversial to be adapted, so Yvan Lacomblez wrote new French lyrics.
