Fugazi! What do you think of them?

I think they have more power then most punk bands and originality to boot. Great band in my opinion. everything Ian Mckaye has been involved in has been great from Skewballed to The Evens.

 

I love Fugazi! Probably one of my most favorite bands ever.

 

I dislike Fugazi, but respect them as a band nonetheless.

 

Musically they're great, but stylistically I will always prefer Minor Threat

 

minor threat was a billikn times better, and fugazi helped create the emo scene, for that i hate them.

 

Really, I think that was applied to them by journalists and critics after the fact. I don't hear emo in their music at all.

 

Emo, today is not like emo back then. If your guitarist starts crying during a solo in a song about your girlfriend dumping you... you're fucking emo, this is word of mouth btw.

 

emo came about because of a close minded punk scene sold back to kids by the mainshit, punk always said feeling was fine, going too far naaaa

 

Late 80's early 90's bands such as Indian Summer , Rites Of Spring , The Hated were called "Emo" back then. They have nothing to do with the sound bands are labelled with today. People hated the term back then and we hate it now.

 

no one's mentioned Ian Mackye's other band embarce, they were much better then fugazi. so was the teen idles.

 

FUGAZI will always have a special place in my mind, even if i don't like all their songs. much like CRASS to me in that regard. i have an mp3 compilation of the songs i like, and they really are some of my favourite songs ever. they were an ideas band. i love the fact they didn't have merchandise, and railed against fashion punk. not that i dislike people who look punk-as-fuck, but it does contribute to a sense of exclusiveness based on looks, rather than inclusiveness as a culture. and the white lights or none at all thing, stripping back punk to bare fundamentals rather than a "show". i will always respect the care they took for their audience, always attempting to stop the show if musclebound meatheads hurt people in the pit, although sometimes it was taken a bit too far. they were great live, and their records can't portray the energy of their shows at all. the "always all age" and always affordable aspects of the bands shows alone made them far more credible as a punk band than most international touring punk bands even today.

as for "emo", emotional hardcore wasn't the "emo" it is today. it was punk based around the personal/emotional/political rather than just outright political music. emotional hardcore was a logical evolution of punk, whereas "emo" was constructed by the media to be a scene, much like "grunge" in the early 90's, which was just garage punk music originally. i don't really like the direction discord records took, but i will always respect the reasons they diverged from more straight up punk and hardcore.

i don't understand comparisons between MINOR THREAT and FUGAZI, they're two separate bands that just happen to have a common member. for what it's worth, i think PAILHEAD was mackaye's best band.

well put GFSM but emo isn't evolotion, '77' punks were feeling before it got sold back by 79 but those who've got the suss keep the suss and keep spreading the disease of freedom.

 

note i wrote emotional hardcore, back when i was a punk emo was shortform slang for this, a movement within punk, not a separate subculture. note i didn't write "emo" (modern subcultural term) is an evolution of punk. it has nothing to do with punk.

and now back to the topic, FUGAZI, not fictional subcultures that suckers think they belong to...

 

emo is punk, fullstop in my eyes in my eyes, minor threat were doin it and it was hardcore punk then it was hardcore then it was emo, then it was post punk, then it was...
