    Melbourne Australia:

Liquor Snatch (great bunch of mad riot grrls, last gig I saw was their gig at Ladyfest 2009)

    Pisschrist

    Punch the Clown

Glen & The Peanut Butter Men

    Common Thread

...some others but I can't be fucked naming them.

I love the Melbourne scene...  :ecouteurs:

My town used to have a larger scene, but it's diminished in recent years.

These are the active bands as of now:
    Shank
    Thanks
    Amerikan Junk
    The New Suns

And lots of others that are either inactive at the moment or broken up.

Hey ungovernable, are you familiar with bands from Ottawa as well? Stuff like Critical Convictions, Germ Attak, H.O.P.E., Take One For The Team (which I'm pretty sure is defunct now, but whatever), and stuff like that? And do you like Omegas?

Stuff from near me... these are hardcore bands from Toronto, although I'm not in Toronto myself. It's just the nearest big city.

    http://www.myspace.com/urbanblight (Really good!)

http://www.myspace.com/molestedyouthhc (I've seen them many times and I like them)

    http://www.myspace.com/schooljerks (Kind of stripped-down hardcore)

http://www.myspace.com/reprobateshc (I have their Stress 7" and it rules)

http://www.myspace.com/urinarytract (I've never seen them live, but I'd like to)

Plus the obvious Toronto bands like Brutal Knights, Terminal State, Career Suicide, etc. and many more good bands that I didn't list due to laziness.

Toronto has a burgeoning hardcore scene, which is pretty cool actually. Most of the bands have a good sound and put on a good live set. It just sucks having to take the train to see a show, then having to leave after the second band because the last train leaves at midnight.

Long Branch New Jersey is pretty fucking badass for the fact that our early 80s scene was, and still is one of the best in history, the scene here was built upon D.I.Y. and alot of the people from back then still put shows on all the time.

    Chronic Sick
    Fatal Rage
    Genocide
    The Worst
    The Beast
    Ripping Corpse
    Shrapnel
    Dirge
    Send Help
    Lethal Aggression
    Adrenaline OD
    Mental Abuse
    Secret Syde
are the big players from the original scene around here, currently theres a few
    Sex Zombies
The cranky ugly mother fuckers(ex the beast/ripping corpse/the worst)
World of shit/Cocytus(Featuring me and the guitar player from Chronic Sick)
A.S.D.(old bassist and drummer from World of shit)
Sacrificial Blood(old bassist from world of shits thrash band from a few years ago)
    Graveyard School
Our scene has always been pretty small, but weve always had some of the best musicians around, and the most sought after records on collectors want lists.

Loophole is an Anarcho space in Northcote (670 High Street, Northcote), keep your ears open because there are gigs everywhere...

The Arthouse has been punk central for quite some time.

Vedette have hosted the Punk Pit (formely Punkopalypse) in Footscray.

Every year on AFL Grand Final day there is the Melbourne Punk Pub Crawl.

I'm usually at Liquor Snatch gigs... ( http://www.myspace.com/liquorsnatch69 ). Check them out and hit me up some time so I can drag you along to a gig or two... :ecouteurs:  :D

Between ska, hardcore, punk, thrashy and sludgy bands there aren't many. The main ones would be:
    The Lobotomies
    Axis Of
    Agressors BC
    Pocket Billiards
    Sorcery
    Gama Bomb
    Visceral Attack
    Dwell In Sun
    Slomatics

But perhaps the better bands were back in the day and there are some real gems that people should check out, like:
    Toxic Waste
    Bleeding Rectum
    Pink Turds In Space
    Stalag 17
    Jobbykrust
    My Name Is Satan
    The Dagda
