I never really got why the punk scene prefers to be underground...is there a reason to that?

Because anarcho-punk is all about NOT being mainstream and not supporting capitalism.

Don't you think it would be contradictory to make money appearing on MTV while pretending to fight capitalism ?

Actually, in the early days of cable tv there were no real guidelines on how artists were to get payed for being played on music channels, so MTV was very quick to negociate a deal where they don't have to pay the artists to play their music. This puts MTV in a very unike situation, since all radiostations have to pay STIM, and even workplaces has to pay if the workers are to be able to listen to music other than if they have it in for example an mp3 player and use headphones, and it's not the company that provides them with the acces of the music. Not that i support MTV or think anarcho-punks should want to be played there., rather the opposite.

all undergrounds have been that way because it is not accepted nor does it accept the dracnonian system, punk goes further like the blues, folk, it searchs for the truth and an essence, questions and keeps it simple cause life is really, its the way things are run that complicates things so recognise, it would be ok to be played on mtv but you don't need too if you promote it well enough ie: we have the means who needs mainstremdumdowntvwesupporthewareffortshit, a means to an end can help but perception could be wrong which is why they dressed people up and said hey its 'punk' um no, probe etc u don't seem to know much, do you live in the boondocks?

'punk isn't part of the mainstream?' yep you're right all that stuff the m stream(which is a blues term orig) calls punk ain't, read up if complete ig or f off, its mostly all covered at its inception explainhg why it is what it is, u will always find the innovators doing their own thing and you wil always find the people denying the brought of thought which means they can never have it, britney and other watered down bollocks it is then, think they call them hipsters, zzzz bor ring, boring is the worst thing that can happen, doing it yaself and breaking down the barrier between audience and artist, hipster fests are trying to do this at cost, fuck that! fuck consumerism as much as possible, i am easy on catz but make an effort and know when someones telling ya the truth and bullshitting, if ya don't care go work in an office or as zounds said subvert, b sure 2, if its rightious

mtv was good 4 2 sex until they hooked kids line and sinker, bit like mcd's, dn't trust none of that shiza, its model is one of the establishment that fucks with peepz everyday and cuts down rainforests in this a new era, leave em behind, all we need is us

ASA - i think what you were saying is right, punk rock isn't accepted by mainstream listeners because of its content and search for truth amidst the lies whereas the mainstream's content is all about superficiality and money/they're the ones creating the lies that we're fighting

i think punk tends to stay underground because a lot of the topics of the songs are things people would rather remain blind and ignorant too (political punk that is.) while mainstream punk bands like offspring and green day tend to write songs that are nonsense and lyrically irrelevant.

I must admite I used to listen to Offspring in grade 5....their early albums were fun then.

Haven't thought of them for years now but now you mentioned them you brought some odd memories back.

By it's nature punk will offend most people, cos it questions established modes of thought, so it can never be popular, if it is, it aint being done right, it aint punk. Since mainstream only every gonna be interested in making money, ie what is popular, they will never be interested in punk. Punk aint underground by choice, there no other option.

LOL funny reading this now after my recent tirade on them. I don't have a problem with people listening to offspring, only people who claim they are a serious punk band.
