Well all I have to say is I am gay too and probably vaguely share some of the same anarchist ideals that others here have.
And as I grew since I first understood that I was gay around the age of 12, I was psychologically molded by my environment and the people in it to further retreat into a shell. I feel as though if I had a boyfriend at the moment, I would not feel comfortable walking down the street holding hands like normal couples do. I would feel humiliated and paranoid about others seeing me, and I do not believe this is entirely my own fault due to how I attempted to describe retreating into my shell.
A lot of what I passionately hate is rooted from how I progressively felt as I grew up, and it pisses me off that the media uses the term "alternative lifestyle" because it encourages people to view homosexuals such as myself as choosing to be gay.
I am part of a naturally occuring demographic and I don't understand why someone would believe that I ever obviously chose to be gay, or if I was straight if I chose that. It's ridiculous.

QueerPunk: I am sorry other anarchists treated you that way. That is bullshit that you had to deal with that.

I think having safe spaces for LGBTQI folk is absolutely necessary. (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex)

I also think having LGBTQIA organizations to try and deal with violence and discrimination NOW is also necessary. (The "A" at the end includes Allies)

That said, violence and discrimination against LGBTQI folk will not end until capitalism itself is abolished. That is just part of the psychological conditions necessary to maintain an authoritarian society, violence against minorities. In order to abolish capitalism, we need a general strike in order to create a revolutionary situation. The way to build for a general strike is to build anarcho-syndicalist organizations. Thus, if we want to see an end to discrimination and violence against LGBTQI folk, in the long term, we need to build anarcho-syndicalist organizations. Does this make sense?

Please give me feedback about this.

Know what I dislike? When gays and lesbians give transfolks the short stick to have momentary gains - like the HRC. I remember when I was living in NYC, I saw a gay couple and I was handing out flyers for a feminist/queer show. I offered them a flyer and they just gave me such a look. I was like, "Hey, I thought we were allies!" They walked right by me. It really hurt. I mean, I thought we were all fighting the same causes for equality and peace.

I don't know, I have learned not to look towards gays and lesbians for solidarity. I identify as queer - I'm female-bodied and genderqueer, but I -don't- like being labeled a lesbian. I don't like what lesbians represents- watching the L Word, assimilating, and mimicking heteronormaltive behavior. I tend to look for other queers than looking for gays or lesbians because they just don't get it. They are so worried about gay marriage when homelessness amongst lgbt is so high. I think Universal Health Care is more of a queer issue than gay marriage. We wouldn't need the benefits of gay marriage if everyone had health care to begin with.

You would probably identify with the Adham Roland song "Rich White and Gay" From the abandoned Cities album. Adham Roland is a genderqueer riot-folk artist, who write some amazing music.

Here is something you possibly learned the hard way...a lot of gay men get shitty when it comes to dealing with women. I would call myself gay because I don't like the idea of sleeping with women (includes transwomen) however it doesn't mean that I treat women with contempt, quite the contrary.

The HRC are pure evil...nothing but a pack if white mostly male gays who want us to assimilate to heternormative constructs so we don't get picked on by the heteros. They have links to the Log Cabin Republicans too...I may live in a Australia but my state's gay lobby almost mirrors the HRC.

We got universal health care here...it was brought in during the early 70s...not sure what's up with the Yanks and their fear of looking after eachother but anyhow...

I love genderqueers...used to 'play' with a genderqueer sub who I am still very good friends with now. Keep sticking it to the gender binary jess.

You can be gay, lesbian or queer (...etc) and not do the cliched shit that seems to be done by our Aberzombie & Felch wearing drones.

If you want some Queer Punk to listen to by the way there is a band from Australia called Anal Traffic. I think that's the right spelling...listen to their track "Racist, bigot, queer".

I know of Anal Traffic. My two top favorite queercore bands are Fagatron and Team Dresch. There's an awesome website where you can download queercore and riot grrrl from http://stacykonkiel.com/soulponies/.

I totally agree. Although neither gay marriage or health care are really issues in New Zealand - legally the only difference between marriage, civil union, and a 'de facto' partnership is adoption rights, and we already have a decent health care system. But I also don't identify as a lesbian because it buys into the whole gender thing and I'd rather the whole concept just fucked off. Or something.

Also, cheers for the music link. Team Dresch are fuckin' awesome, I haven't really discovered many other queercore bands yet though 'cause it's so hard to find.

Personally - I don't care about sexuality at all.

But i've noticed the tendensy you mention here. Even so called punks and anarchist can get really pissed off by nothing.
In my country, we have a electroclash band called Nuclear Family, who are openly homo-sexuals. We wrote "Gay is the new punk" - which is one of their songs, about queer rights - on a friends jacket (his straight, but have often been mistaked for being homosexual), and people actually got provoked by that and some lipstick. Even so called anarchist at a punk gig.

I don't think they are homophobes really. I just think that many of them find it easier to write on a poster "no homophobia" than to actually interact with people that may be homosexuals - Which i don't understand. I guess it's society's stereotypes that are still stuck in people, even when you try to deny them.

i like queer groups, and queer-core.

the alternative sexualities, from so much documentation, research, and data I've seen has been openly apart of punk counter whatever.

That's one of the reasons I could grasp that, because I had an identity that was apart of myself even though I didn't know what I was or how it was to be what that was... teenage confusion.

I'm sure in contemporary urban circles queerness has a population. But I also know from the southwest that are many towns that have a minority of self identified queer-ness.

So to find a strong queer in those towns, you have a friend even if you'r not with it there's someone who understands you in a small town. Plus there are the people who have a key to the closet, and that's fine. But finding a punk or some other alternative lifestyle in any small town you feel better, cuz cowboy hats, country music, rap, does get lame after a while. time to hitch hike... take your punk mix tapes, batteries, and have a adventure.

i don't know, no sleep. thinking of putting more writing out. might go to jail, queers get used there too, abused-exploited-invalidated, etc. good morning. :ecouteurs:

Somebody who does not identify as being of either gender...gender-neutral...that or they identify with a bit of both. You could possibly say that they are not too different from what First Nation Americans refer to as Two-Spirit.

Thanks for that, so basically they're the middle part of the gender-spectrum if I understand correctly.

I was half expecting that my identity as a very vocal Queer Anarchist would not provoke bad responses in Anarchist circles of all places...just because I want to organise actions and develope a movement/scene I all of a sudden become too much to handle because my desire to be more than just a pissed off individual who buries his head in books and argues ideology with people.
