if you are gonna dress like that, you have to expect to take flak, like it or not, not everyone will see it as a cool thing, and not everyone is open minded enough to see it with out saying something stupid.

exactly, so you really shouldn't dwell on the naysayers, as cliche as it sounds, those who talk shit usually do it because it makes them feel better about their own fucked up existence.

It's a huge problem everywhere i've been. I know a lot of "punks", who refuse to wear anything but second-hand training suits, and bitch about everybody else being posers. No mohawks or piercing, yet sure they are the most rebellious thing in the world. I'm not saying you need to have piercings, leatherjackets, mohawks or ANYTHING to be part of a scene, but i find it ridicolous how they hate on everybody who looks different. What's the difference from mainstream society?

You should dress how ever you feel, as long as you are true to yourself. Yes, there are the posuers who wear the "punk rock uniform", but that doesn't mean that everyone with a mohawk and patches is a posuer... as long as you are true to yourself and dress how you feel comfortable then you are a true punk, way more of a punk than someone who stands on the sidelines telling others how to dress.

"To Thine Own Self Be True" doesn't matter what others think.

Shoulda told him that whats out here is a representation of whats up here, you cant be pointing out random people you don't know telling them how to dress :/ don't sweat it, the guy was probably already pretty drunk.

Ah yes, the ongoing battle between fashion and "anti-fashion" (which is really still a form of fashion anyways), and who the "posers" are. "Poser" is such an overloaded term nowadays that everyone's a poser by some stretch of the definition. I really don't care, as long as you're not an asshole I think we'll get along fine.

Isn't an aspect of punk rock the freedom of expression? Don't human express themselves partly through the way we look? It'd be awfully hard to express your discontent for corporate America while wearing the latest American Eagle Polo Tee.

While getting older one always realises having been a dumbass no matter what, there is something insanely stupid for everyone... It's called evolving (not growing up - i've realised sooo many times i've been a dumbass but i'm very much not a grown-up)! Wearing a leather jacket with a patch is probably not one of those things you'll look back at going "what was i thinking?!", cos you'll do way stupider stuff ;)

Chris Smith wrote that song about his nefarious heroin addiction that eventually killed him, he was an Anarcho-Punk with a bad drug problem...The reason i quoted it was because as a young punk that
song gave me strength to deal with all the anti-punk bullshit ...as for racists, homophobes and sexists they'll latch on to anything since they can't obviously come up with anything remotely original...those idiots could fuck up a wet dream
