I care. I'd actually LOVE to teach a class on punk rock. The closest I ever came was one class at my community college. I still have the handouts and study guides somewhere.

    Sufficient.

yeah, well that is an unfortunate side effect of becoming mainstream i suppose. Kind of reminds me of when Kurt Cobain said he couldn't believe that jocks who used to beat him up were now sporting Nirvana t-shirts...

The bands I associate with warped tour weekend warriors are more like AFI, Pennywise, etc... I guess BR is an easy target because their logo was so cool, people feel like they are rebels or something for wearing it, even when they aren't familiar with the band!

Actually, Motorheads drummer played the first recorded instance of the thing we have all come to know as "d beat" well before discharge ever did.

They just played the same fucking beat over and over and over and over with 3 chords, and a tad heavier, but if you really wanna get technical on musical history, its a 5th beat, which in turn has been played for as long as percussion instruments have existed.

Slow, mid tempo, fast, whatever, Discharge didnt fucking invent the D beat, but without motorhead, 7/8 of the bands around now wouldnt exist as fast as they are.

My only complaint is people making erroneous statements, or jumping to dubious conclusions. That said, I think it's very important. In order to understand punk rock you have to understand it's history, where it comes from. A line requires a minimum of two points, you can't know where you are or where you're going without a reference point. This is how I started to really learn about punk. I had been in the scene for a little over a year and I realized I really didn't know that much about it; I could list dozens of punk bands but couldn't place them in any kind of framework or see how any of them related to eachother. That's when I started reading and buying records. Now I have a massive music collection and a collection of volumes on punk and alternative music to cover a couple bookcases, and to be perfectly honest, I love punk rock more now than I did when I started. The research, the process of discovery only led me to a deeper and greater appreciation of punk rock. I think one of the major reasons why the punk scene is decaying right now is so many of the new kids don't have a clue about what they're getting in to. This is OUR history, and that makes it important.

Word but d.i.y nearly always, fox etc etc doesn't help, rupert is that draconian. The more people are disengaged the less things are actually and with love passed on to the right people of course, those who will share and take care when nec. Don't get tooo bogged down in history though because you can be wrong, more people need to listen to 'good' diff music too and some people, 'professionals' do have experiance but read the right stuff, question.

i must have been exposed to diff music at an early age or denied it and had an interest. i always hated! the sound of olivia newtown john etc in the 70's chewing on porridge, i thought this isn't music, wtf is this passionless crap and i didn't need crust to make me a convert as i was never a metal head. It was portrayed as a dum music when its not but then the industry tried to kill anything that moved who didn't have the suss, you know, the 'punk underground' bands going it doesn't matter while helping themselves only, they obvs didn't read about kropotkin or proudhon, it came full circle, being sold by globilisation the idea that individualism was key over everything(sometimes i felt like i was in the twilight zone), thats just a permeation of a generation who's had alotta money rollin round, it blinds more often than not unfortunately, which is why it takes some others longer than others, thats fine but i hope this decade peepz listen and stop being distracted, if you were drowning would you come up for air, don't look at me like theres something wrong with me, cause i'm a punk, i know what i want and i'm planning on getting there for allor there wil be nothing left and i'm sore loser when it comes to sustainabilty, no prude though, fuck that!

Don't work for an organisation for years that doesn't give a toss about you, break it down bit by bit and use the bricks to rebuild when the stupid fucks are out! PUNK!!! oh and read up a liitle, know wat ya about but don't get rightious tiil ya at the gates/at them, be maleable except on points, work together, however. The Avengers sung, 'We Are The One' for a reason, stay yaself, help others, make progress, feel what ya want

Well, I went to Anti-Flag's show in Denver last night.. I was a bit discusted by the fact that they where touring with Aiden. Aiden was sponsored by Monster energy drinks.. I lost respect for Anti-Flag at that point. I literally had to avert my gaze during the Aiden set. I turned around and stared at the ceiling. Then at the end of the show the lead singer called out some street punk who had been flipping him off the whole show. But they also toured with the Cancer Bats, who where entertaining. I'd definately see them again, as well as the Faggots of Death, how ever i would never touch their music. Also, some couple was fucking on the balcony during their set.. Funniest thing i've ever seen at a show. One of the band members brought them a cigarette. :lmao: But as disgruntled as i was having to sit through 3 shitty, shitty bands finnally Anti-Flag came up and gave the best show i've ever seen. Funnest concert i've ever been to. They did a really kick-ass Clash cover set at the end.

I was there to and this is an excellent summary. It was an ultimately fun show but the crowd was 80 percent total douchebags so that wasn't very fun. Other then that I'd say it was worth the ridiculous 15 dollar ticket price.

I think I've been influenced into a bias against The Clash and The Sex Pistols because they keep getting compared to bands like Crass. I admittedly can't help but think about everything they DON'T say when I hear them, which isn't often because of the disappointment. It's not really a problem with artists I don't expect to be overtly radical.

The Sex Pistols bought it on themselves tho. No, I don't hate them for it, and 'Anarchy in the UK' is in my library. I can forgive. I just can't forget.

I got into punk with Anti-Flag (and Crass, but Crass' vocals proved incoherent to me at the time, having listened to nothing but clean vocals and Hip Hop for my first 15 years), but I've since accepted that they're really just THOSE kind of liberals. The ones who hang out with radicals but never mask up and join in on the resistance. When listening to Anti-Flag, I just faceplam when appropriate.

DISCLAIMER:I actually know VERY little about The Clash and The Sex Pistols. It pretty much boils down to knowing that they aren't Crass. LOL.

So those of you who do like anti-flag I have a question. "This Is Not A Crass Song" is that mocking Crass? I mean I have heard mixed views on that, one being that the band was influenced by Crass... but the song just seems to be mocking.... In what way do you all take that song?

I actually did get a good laugh while listening to that album. I like the anti-chumbawamba album better (even though they are my favorite band).

    From the Anti-Flag website:

So, yeah, mocking but in a friendly way, I dunno.
