Crust can't be melodic, you say?

Here's a few I reckon would fit the bill:

    Ekkaia
    Fall Of Efrafa
    Morne
    Panacea
    Wolfbrigade
    From Ashes Rise etc. etc.

Check out one or two tracks from these bands and see if it's what you're looking for. If not, suggest a couple of bands that you think are melodic crust and I'll see if I can think of anything similar.

geez dudah, for someone who calls themselves d-beat## you sure don't seem to really have a handle on your punk bands.

melodic crust (or lounge crust as we call it here) is my favourite sub-species of the punk beast. i'll skip WITCH HUNT since they've been mentioned, and more obvious mentions like HIS HERO IS GONE and TRAGEDY, but my faves are...

    SCHIFOSI
    ABC WEAPONS
    ICTUS
    THE ASSASSINATORS
    MADAME GERMEN
    COP ON FIRE
    LEADERSHIT
    TO WHAT END?
    ZERO HOUR
    MUGA
    VAE VICTIS

...some of these bands are linked via this site for download.

As much as i love Assassinators, i have a hard time calling them crust-punk... If you're thinking of the Danish punk band.

yeah, they're the white elephant in that list. it really boils down to whether you think of crust as a music genre (which i in fact don't, because it's too diverse) or as a particular lifestyle ethic within the broader subculture of punk (which, in general, i do). THE ASSASSINATORS are basically a pop-punk band, but their lifestyle ethos as individuals defies the usual commercial connetations of labelling them as such. crust isn't a fashion, a lot of people who look the part aren't really crusties in my opinion, just alcoholic white trash like rednecks, but dirtier (literally). the band in question look the part, and live the part, but their music doesn't "fit in" with the so-called genre of crust. thank fuck for that too, because i'm sick of punx "fitting in" all the time.

EDIT: i thought i'd make a point here of the fact i'm not trying to insult crust-punks. i've spent a good ten years of my life heavily involved in that particular lifestyle (squatting, blockading etc), i'm merely saying there's a lot of posers, as with any "scene". i'm not going to debate "what is" a crusty, that's for another thread, and i doubt i'd contribute to it anyway. let's just say i think the ASS ASS crew pull off a way better d-beat than most dreaklocked bohemians i've seen.

    :D

    GFSM:
I can only agree with that!
Personally, i love the Assassinators music. They prove, that you can play pop-punk too, without letting go of your DIY roots. They dare to be different, by playing what they want to.

So yes, i agree, they do definately fit in the scene - but calling them "crust-punk" as a genre would be wrong.

less division, i'd much rather call some of these bands anarcho punk rather than crust as i like crust thats poliitical but also peels my face off, i am far from against melody but often in this sub sub sub sub sub genre it sounds passe to me, anyway back to the recommendations, not my steez, just sounz like "metal" to me and i'm not a "metal" fan which is why i like crust

    I totally understand.

But if we want to go along the lines of Assassinators etc. , The Libyans have made some great stuff - Melodic, yet not to boring.

don't worry about it, it's not ignorance, because you admit you're learning, that's the opposite of ignorance.

i think people should deliberately fuck with genres, because putting things in easy-to-fit boxes is lame. hopefully someone forms a "lounge crust power violence" band soon, and encourage their fans to do spasmodic slam dancing while also reclining on sofas drinking homebrew.

yea? then those who "fucked with the genre" will be classified in another genre i.e. MELODIC CRUST, and if it doesnt have a genre itll just be thrown in with underground or alternative.

Im thinking rap-country-crust-punk-emo-lounge-reggae music, that sounds fun too.

Hey Im New. Greetings from Seattle. Figure its better to just start posting than waste a topic on Hello My name is...

I would agree also that rather than define the term "crust", which could be and most likely is a topic elsewhere on here, (i dont know and I am only a spare time message board frequenter anyway) mentioning it does bring to mind a certain image or sound, band name etc. And to different people it evokes different thoughts and emotions.

That being said The person was looking for melodic "crust" bands. Here is a list of some I like a lot. Maybe you will come to discover something you do too. Others maybe not so much. And by saying melodic, I mean weaving guitar riffs an interesting/catchy beat etc..

    Acursed
    ABC Diabolo
    Ambulance
    Apocalypstyx
    Behind Enemy Lines
    Chickenchest And The Birdboys
    Consume
    Counterblast
    Cross Stitched Eyes
    Cruevo
    Dagda
    Deathraid
    Detestation
    Disfear
    Econochrist
    Ekkaia
    Eldopa
    End of All
    Fall Of Efrafa
    Final Warning
    Fleas And Lice
    From Ashes Rise
    G-Anx
    Greed
    Harum Scarum
    Kontrovers
    La Fraction
    Mankind?
    Masskontroll
    Naked Aggresion
    Pist
    Remains Of The Day
    Selfish
    Skew Whiff
    To What End?
    The Total End
    Tragedy
    Unkind
    Wolfbrigade
    Wolfpack

    ++++++++++++++++++ Start there. Cheers
