    Hi all,

I have no idea how I have not been here for years already, as this already feels like somewhere that I would call home... My name is Glenn and so much of my being has been molded or influenced at least by the political punk rock of the earlier decades, and in particular the anarcho-punk of the Subhumans UK, CRASS, Conflict, Aus Rotten, DK, etc... The music and words have also interwoven with my politics when younger and were the precursor to a lot of the social justice activism that I got into, the stuff I studied in university in undergrad and graduate school and the bands that we have started and then never managed to get together due to busy schedules, alcoholism and other mayhem.. I am only reading the Aesthetic of our Anger now, but I knew exactly what the author meant when he said that some people took "anarcho-punk" seriously. It hasn't just been a passing trend in my life and while my identity is shaped by many different influences, this would be a definite. Has also gotten me into protests with tear gas where I did learn a lot more about anarchist practice and a few resources. We lost a great anthropologist and anarchist (Greber) this year!! He left some great work though!

I fell ended up drinking my way into several rehabs, jail cells and detoxes, so am in fairly early recovery and have been here for eight years. It is now impossible for me to drink without having it turn into 40 oz a day where I am still somehow functioning at the university I work at but also not being able to stop after a few weeks on medical advice at risk of having a seizure and just dying, which has been sometimes appealing when shit was really bad. I hate cops as I'm sure many of us do and have had a number of really deplorable experiences with them and their hostility. I was recently charged with resisting arrest for something really stupid and the bitter taste remains. I quit trying to argue about them serving essentially as mall cops for capitalism and private property in the West a long time ago, cause that goes nowhere fast. haha. Have recently been expunging some rage through music as I have recently picked up my guitar again. Thanks Covid!

Look forward to meeting and discussing stuff with you all!! Up the punx and fight the right!! xo

Oh yeah - I did compile a list of direct action resources a few years ago that I will look for which might be useful for anyone involved in black bloc tactics and/or direct action... I posted them in some group and someone was pretty critical and told me that I should have done such and such and I was like "fuck you, I'm just doing this as a side project and to help out by going through these resources and compiling them into one spot", so if I do share here I will disclaim it and explain what I did.... wasn't a huge undertaking but it was tedious and I was very conscious of not editorializing anything based on personal preference - i.e., they should appeal to anyone Left/left/(insert here) to want to look at them. In solidarity... shallow

Hello Glenn! Welcome! Great bands you mention, I also grew up with those. :) Well, except for Crass, I never really liked their music.

Graeber died in 2020, but I agree - his work is truly great! My favorite is 'Bullshit Jobs: A Theory' which I read last year. It's incredibly useful in the antiwork discussion.
