You are kidding right? i thought i twas pretty known that danzig tried to sound a bit like ol' jimbo. and you may think the doors are boring, but i think they were a great band, who even 45 years later still don't sound like anything else... but thats just my opinion.

Yes they were horror fans, but that doesn;t mean they were still into the gimmicks, like wearing make up and devil locks and such... i really don't give a fuck about image, i want substance. and again, my opinion, the misfits lyrics are pretty insubstantial, and they were on caroline records, which was pretty much a major label, and danzig became a huge sellout, and samhain and danzig (the band) are pretty lousy in my opinion also, so all that factors into my dislike for them. I do understand why people like the misfits, but i think they end up bveing a stepping stone band for punk fans who like lyrics with a little more meaning, but again, there's nothing wrong with rocking out to fun music.

Great question, I have been listening to a lot of blues lately, and if you consider punk to be a sort of protest music by oppressed people, then the blues fits right into this category. And in the 60's, a lot of naysayers and blues pureists were pissed when it became mainstream and covered by rich white boys (eric clapton, paul butterfield, etc.) Sound familair punk fans and green day haters? (though frankly i hate The Offspring 10000000000000000 x's more then green day...)

'77 punk was the first type of punk I got into. I still respect a lot of the artists, but I've mostly moved on from it.

I was 15 in '77, in UK, though I didn't get into the music til a year later. UK Subs, Stiff Little Fingers, Ruts, Stranglers, Angelic Upstarts, Buzzcocks, and I still listen to them today. Sex Pistols and Clash were already 'dead', though no doubt they inspired just about everyone I knew to pick up a guitar. Funny enough, I never heard any Ramones until years later, but world was a lot smaller without the internet.

Agreed. As much as one can argue that punk does date back prior to the 60's or 70's, I personally think that these bands were revolutionary in bringing important ideals to underground music. I also believe this because "anarcho" bands carry the attitude and belief system that I would relate closest to punk rock. I guess to debate this it would all depend on personal taste as well as one's own definition of punk, but that's just my opinion.
