What makes a band truly ANARCHO?

Isn't it the bands beliefs?

Are the Dead Kennedy's anarcho? I mean Jello ran for president of the USA

 

I would think that a band should state clearly that they are anti-fa, anti-state, anti-deist, as well as offer up thoughts on solutions to those cancers, and in my book also
pro-ALF/ELF, revolutionary and ACTIVE. But thats just my humble opinion. Also Jello is not an Anarchist per-se but he believes in the same goals we do so lets just say he is an Honorary Member of the clan.

Nuh, the difference between anarcho- and non anarcho bands lies in weather or not they have a myspace page! Everyone knows that!

a reallyy important things is for me.... beside what they are saying what they are (anti-fa, anti homophobic, anti sexist, anti capitalist and so on....) is what they are doing.....i band can say they are sooooo anti sexist or something but anyway when they are really macho, making homophobic jokes and stuff like that they are not really anarch@

I agree action is important. And as a band that can be really tricky, because if you vocally support animal liberation for example in your music and in your writing and stuff... then when animals are liberated where you happen to be, you tend to be an easy target for the authorities. Myself I have to really watch my step on that, since it seems that where ever I move to (and I tend to move a lot) there are liberations from fur farms, and because of my political views the cops in St. Cloud MN actually admitted to following me around town... so since I am so vocal I have to be careful of my actual level of involvement. So as a musician sometimes you must decide is your role that of an educator, or that of direct action, or a mix of both??? Because we do need both educators and those willing to act upon that education. I must refuse to tell you which role I take since we are on the internet.

 

I'm not much of a musician and haven't had the cops following me around but about that what you can and cannot say i as an artist can relate. What one could possibly have putten up out in the street has to be very different from what one can show at a gallery, if one would choose to be able to do both and be able to visit ones own openings. This especially if the artwork is of a political nature, for example about animal liberation. Even if the content can in both cases be political, the name can not, and ultimately neighter the technique. Plus there is that whole secret part about the actual actions.

 

Jello has said in the past that he doesn't think that humans are ready to handle living in anarchy at this time. That being said, he's still very committed to the same goals as most anarchists

 

Hey I love, the Dead Kennedy's and Jello! I agree with what you say about him working towards the same ends.

 

i don't think jello understood the text then if he says 'humans r not ready', anarchism is obstensibly rather a human condition, its like saying we're not selfish, ya gotta be to survive, how much is the system of entrenchemnt, we r not free until we endeavour for freedom

 

i'm surprised no one has said what i think makes a band truly anarcho... practicing what they preach, activisim, etc. Not just singing songs about how to resist things, but actually resisting them themselves.

 

I agree with Anxiety69, practice what you preach, if you sing about anarchy, and anti this and anti that, then you better be on the front lines as an activist and protesting the bullshit.
We should have punks protesting outside of wal-marts and mcdonalds, just like the religious influenced protest outside abortion clinics and gays.

Anarcho bands do not make music for a living, they make music as a form of teaching and raising their voice. Anarcho bands should have members working within the society to make the world a better place, not just telling kids what to do. Work for non-profit organizatoins, work for human rights, work understanding the system and finding loopholes within it. Although the economy blows, jobs are being made everyday by people, we can make our own.
Make music its great, but an Anarcho band doesn't just make music.
