i personally think anarchy is particularly compatible with nomadism
    for a few simple reasons:
a debased person would have no "territory"over which to exert power
if you're living next to a person you don't get on with....no need for war or bickering..just move
constant change does'nt allow routine/power/institutions to settle in...
the main problems to contend with are logistic ones.
but if enough people are one move you will meet people who create the bare necessities,
    shoemakers ,blacksmiths etc...
animals can be herded around without an significant problems
(i grew up in a bus and my parents kept chickens in the belly boxes...)
vegetables can be grown in pots or on flatbed trailers (full of earth)
    even roofs of vehicles.
cereals would be the main problem...(i suppose you could just throw em every where and come back when they're mature but that probably would'nt work)
another problem is a lot of people ar'ent prepared to be nomads....or anarchists yet!
as for vehicles they don't necessarily have to be petrol or diesel powered ,moving would suppose nobody would be working the refineries.wood gas or steam are cheap and low maintenance alternatives.
..horsedrawn waggons boats also do the job...

a simple way of destroying power without violence is for everybody to leave a country...without people power is nothing...
dunno it's a long shot... what do you think?

You know, a lot of activities that are considered "redneck" are also compatible with Anarchism, growing your own food, building your own place to live, living off the land, living in the woods, etc. etc. (not the hunting and being stupid of course!)

I think lifestyle politics are nothing but self-important cheap nihilist bullshit. I'm not important enough that my lifestyle has considerable political impact. The logical consequence of such ideas are "yeah, but if everyone does it, then it'd be alright", so those who do not wish to life that particular way of life are looked down upon as people who don't want to contribute to the greater good, which leads to much intolerance.

hmm there are a lot more people out there doing that sort of stuff than you'd expect.
and there are more every year over here.
as a result new laws have been passed...if that's not influence.
it has become very hard to get a job if you live in a vehicle
i've been refused a lot on that motive alone
..pushing us further into the margins of society.although you cannot escape society totally.you're a part of it whatever you think...
trying to convert serious captalists to anarchy is about as easy as converting you to faschism, whereas changing ourselves is immediate.
if you consider it escapism.perahps you don't realise the whole situation
for a start i live in france because my parents had threats from officials in the uk that my brother and i where to be put in care, because of the way we lived
do yo think it's escaping the issues to be hounded out of every town you spend more than a day in?
to have to show pigs your id up to 5 times a day...i have had to at times
i've had my home searched on "suspicions" of being a drug dealer twice in a week
    just intimidation
and the amount of places i can't go because they've put height barriers there...
if they go to such much trouble to hassle us we must be doing something fundamentally subversive
i've lived in squats before and a lot of people who claim to be "doing stuff" do nothing else than organise gigs or art displays...and a lot have had negociations with the town committees.making it all semi legal...
i don't negociate with the town committee!i move in!
at one time we(30 trucks) where on a car park in Chamonix, and where getting parking tickets every day!
the only reason they would'nt confiscate and tow vehicles off to the scrappy,is because it was too expensive to tow 20 odd lorries away
just movin in to anywhere gets us police attention (and civil i've been stoned before)
iv'e been kicked out of 11 towns this year...
and i'm one of the rare few of the group i travel with to be without a criminal record
(include fighting, agression of a police officer, refusal to comply, theft ,driving on illegal fuel etc...)
so no i don't think we're escaping anything

    :D yes. i suppose
the more important aspects are nothing is to be permanent
hierarchy(that which anarchy is the opposite)
is the power of institutions....and what do institutions do?stay!
moving is the opposite of staying...
a possible way of removing people from power is to move them(rather than emptying the country)
imagine if we kidnapped the president and threw him out of a plane in the middle of an african war zone with no id or money...
at least we would'nt be killing him :lmao:

further evidence for the reason i support this
take a look at gypsies, they are one of the few people that have no official leader
    and they own no land...
they are often bigots and capitalist as fuck but yet they do not seek to control what is around them...
a whole people with no leader? what would that be?

    the gypsies have "kings"
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_of_the_Gypsies

the first bit is interesting apparently it can just be claimed...anybody can be "king"that's rather equalitarian

the second part i find funny because it is a solution to a common problem.
you see when police turn up on a site they usually ask to speak to the leader...as there is none...it just means they get badmouthed by everyone...so we all get fined...etc...
over the many centuries they have been hassled they have developed a strategy ,simply just calling someone king and handing him over...
their kings must be pretty dedicated to the people to hand themselves over and be punished for everyone else...

Somehow the 'drifter' or as you call it the nomadic lifestyle has always appealed to me, but uhm... how do you make it work with no substantial income, such as is my case? (60 bucks a month officially and some odd jobs for mates for beer and tobacco).
Something I would like to look into to be honest, if only for a shorter period of trekking ;)
Anyway... I use the word drifter as without negative connotations in this context, by the way, simply well... like drifting along with the wind or water, whichever takes your fancy.

It does sound pretty sweet! I've met some travellers and heard some stories from them so I understand it aint just 'festival' all day every day, but i still think I'd like it somehow.

The form of anarchism i support would give us the freedom to choose being nomads, and that is more or less how I would like to live.

Well if we had no developed societies then some of us would have to hunt to survive. If you lived out in the woods in a cold climate, good luck survivng if you are not hunting or fishing regularly.

If i could live off the land I would. I'm not a vegetarian, I would love to be able to eat meat that is not pumped full of hormones and other nasty manufactured shit. If i was a hunter, I would do as the Indians did and use everything I could from what I slay.

How would an absence of rooted civilization automatically mean an absence of developed societies?
I'm sure it would be a lot harder, but there's more than enough people that still travel around today who fare good enough to survive, to say the least and I heard Mongolia gets quite cold... ;)

Surely not everyone would want to move around. Also not everyone that does feels the need to move all the time. To stay in one place a couple of months and grow something couldn't be an issue.
A good way to start for travellers as well as stayers is to plant fruittrees in public places as much as possible. That's good for the environment, looks good, and provides food for everyone. Heard of transitiontowns? http://www.transitiontowns.org/ They also have local organisations in different countries.

    "high" plains drifter :lmao:
i work in any old place that'll emply me(bakers,hotels,farms...)... i d'ont usually work more than 3-4 months a year i could reduce that amount significantly if i stopped getting fucked vehicles and having to change them all the time!
my biggest yearly expense is insurance which i can only pay for with money unfortunately...(cant swap it against odd jobs or dodgy second hand diesel lol)
by foot however you really dont need much,in fact the less you carry the easier it is.
just good waterproofs and basic camping stuff.not so much fun in winter though.
that woulkd be the time of year to move into a squat...a cheap way out is to buy a cheap mini caravan for the winter then sell it off again in spring.
i've a mate who got cought without a driving license so he sold his van immediatly, and we take it in turns to tow his caravan behind our trucks.

actually that's a really good idea!...i often work on picking fruit so i never have to buy any, fruits allways better fresh ,i don't enjoy 6 month old apples that have been in a fridge all year, better off eating stuff that's in season(and brew liquor out of the rest before it rots)
and no of course not everyone would want to move...
a lot of people could'nt bear the idea of moving.
it would have to become the norm;then people would'nt concieve life otherwhise.
a lot of gypsies only do it because it's part of their tradition...

i might be off to portugal or go east (romania, czech etc...)
depending on what we decide and what we can afford.

i say that because i grew up on the road and when i stay anywhere for more than a certain amount of time i'm like a tiger in a cage (i go round in circles, and get frustrated)
living in a house is like self imposed prison, just the squareness and blank white walls drive me mad.
it's a bit of a disease in a way,to go to prison would be my worst nighmare!
