they have you on reliance on them like a pusher, truly, you can make ya own movies and games, storytelling is free, half the worlds population doesn't have video games and some of them are the happiest in the world

i already sed enjoy games but how much are you willing

specially wen fox and other networks that push agendas and hands in pies like guns for hire and hating on freedom, and they are usually shit so how bout boycott them too, fox means lack of plotline, lies and most of all harmful, r u willing to call the shots, u have a voice, don't let them mould you and wen the peace reigns u can play as many games as you damn well please but u may have to eat less as it will be up to you

Asa, I only buy used games (so the only people i'm actually supporting are places like gamestop, ebay, and garage sale and swapneet vendors and thfirt stores.) Buying used games doesn't help the companies that made them, they get no money from it. A few years ago I recall garth Brooks made a big stink about his cds being sold used in corporate stores, and threatening to not let them stock his shit (big loss that would have been). Hopefully the major VG companies wont also try something as lame as that.

u give them money to buy more mainstream games huha, now i'm just being pedantic

i was also replyin to those that compared games and movies to the freedom of art etc, they are not one and the same in a idealogical capiltaiist system but the idea of art is free if u d.i.y. as much as possible fo realz, its as though the past never existed

its like not going to mc'd's for a burger, its really quite easy or not gong to walmart to buy every little thing even paying more to avoid slave labour or theivin/but b sure, u can often trade stuff for free if need be, check the labels or just thinking about what would you need to be happy, do u need another pair of shoes, ya wunda why boots became popular, they last and jean material, i need a guitar, pen, paper, a desk, musical device to play my polluting soundbites on and if i didn't have one i imagine i'd make one, imagine if all music was free obstensibly, imagine the pretty lights are lying to you and they block out the stars and then become media if its gets ya jollies, naomi klein did, you'll find ya happy place, is it any wunda they kept developing things to distract us while they went and killed in foreign lands, they got better at that too so we gotta get wise, look out theirs a zombie behind u, i may make u want to go killa few now, thats good let it out and let it go PUNKS!

imagine if u had to conserve water to survive, thats how important it is to avoid their shiza but you have leeway that you aren't dying of thirst so you can give yaself a break/breather once and awhile, addiction just doesn't go away, it takes work, but someone else is dying of thirst because of this consumerist shiza

I personally love video games, but I actually prefer real gaming like Dungeons and Dragons.

But I am surprised none of you video game fans mentioned Final Fantasy 7... The games starts off with an ex-SOLDIER joining this group of anarchists called Avalanche who blow up a power reactor at the beginning of the game. The game is about bringing down a larger fascist corporation called Shinra, and also about saving the planet. Of course like all Final Fantasy games there are many plot twists and the story gets to be about way more than just that... but it is definitely an anarcho-themed game. I love all of the Final Fantasy games (except X2 which didn't even deserve to have the Final Fantasy name attached to it).

I am also a big fan of any D&D based game both on gaming systems and PC.

As far as ASA's argument: Dude you are really close-minded. Are you against anyone having any sort of fun. Sure people are buying games... but oh fucking well... if it brings a person joy and they're are not intentially hurting anyone else in the process then what is the harm? Show me where the Square-Enix company has committed any wrong doings... and then I will point out that you are using a computer which in the end was also made buy a corporation. Your are surfing the internet on a web browser that was made from another corporation. It is so easy for you to point out the shortfalls of others but what about yourself? Games are fun and there is nothing wrong with having fun. If you like a game, why not buy it to help support it's creators and their families so that they can make you other games... and when the revolution does come then we can get to a point where we can trade what goods and services we can make to these same people for the games that we enjoy.... From your posts on here anarchism seems like slavery... no fun, no games, no fashion, just follow your leaders and great thinkers like Bakunin, don't bother to think for yourself, just read their works and follow the "anarchist" rules and change will come.... fuck that anarchism is freedom and freedom has no cost, it is making the decision to be free, and if giving up all things that you enjoy is the cost of "freedom" then you are not free you are... yes a fucking slave....

OK in the case of DIY, there's a couple of alternatives, but you need programs made by big corporations to make 'em: RPGMaker, Flash, etc.
Also I'm glad I'm not the only roleplayer on here XD
Though it's been quite a while since I last found anyone to play with :(

For a DIY alternative, after learning the basic concepts and workings of D&D I have actually ran my own games based on that system using my own additions, with friends who have never gamed but wanted to try out gaming without having to buy the books and learn it. I mean that is what I love about D&D you can learn the basic game play and do whatever you want, run whatever kind of games session you want, it's great it is only limited buy your imagination.

I think gaming (both video gaming and dice rolling table top gaming) is a fun artistic, and creative outlet. And I think we all should have fun in our lives, otherwise what's the point in life at all.

And I believe this thread is under the general discussion, not the political discussion thread, so why shouldn't we be allowed to talk about it. It's cool that we have Anarchism in common... but isn't it even cooler that we have hobbies and interests in common too! I just makes me want to actually hangout with some of you guys even more.

By the way I mean no offense ASA, it's just that I think that there is room for fun outside of anarcho-punk on here, the more we all have in common the better... and you know what, even when capitalism does fall and we see an anarchist society rise in it's ashes I not only think that video gaming and other gaming will continue but I think it will get so much better because it won't be limited by financial constraints any longer, and the artists will have more freedom to expand their art form!

Okay I know we all hate capitalism... but let me say this, if you are going to attack people for buying clothes and playing video games and such then let me ask you something.

Do you buy records/tapes/cds? Do you pay to go to shows and see bands?

If so how can you justify attacking someone else for spending money on what they enjoy? If you don't, then how do you expect bands to continue to tour?

lol do people still play that? i never have, and think to each their own with people playing actual rpgs, but unfortunatly i have memories of nerdy kids in high school playing these... but i would play them now :)

and i agree with ring of truth. I like finding out i have something in common with the good folks here besides anarchsim. I was hoping this would be a good site to make friends on with common interests, and It is nice to take a breath once in a while and indulge in fun. I have met some fun anarcho punks, and they are usually my favorite types to hang around, as they also tend to be more creative. just my 2 cents... kind of suprising this even needs to be discussed or defended... :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p
