    Hello all you wonderful people.

Im Wooly, im 17, male, and im just sort of getting in to punk. I think Ive always had a punk brain, since my father is a very politically active hippy, and im now starting to see punk as a way to channel the energy that Ive inherited from him. Ive taught myself to play the Bass guitar over the last three or so years, and im thinking of starting a punk/hardcore band with a few friends (And i use the word hardcore to describe the kind of 80's heavy punk music. Not that screamo garbage that was have today).

Id love to sample any music that you guys could recommend, and anything else you could teach me about being a punk would be totally awesome.

    Thanks,
    Wooly

    welcome fellow aussie,

    just listen to pisschrist.
u need like a studded jacket, a haircut that takes 3 hrs to do, and a goon bag. Otherwise you won't have the right look to be as punk as us. ;)

    cheers and welcome again!

Meh I'm not too good at recommending shit unless someone gives me a specific band they like... If you could list those I could probably give you a bunch of recommendations.
    Anyways welcome :)

Hey guys, thanks. Ive got an old green army style jacket that im thinking about converting, the hairstyle thing might be an issue because of my job, but im a big Goon fan so that shouldn't be an issue.

Ill definitely check out Pisschrist and tell you what i think, maybe you guys could suggest some more stuff after that.

Oh, and im from the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne.

    sorry, just wasn't sure.

I remember a few years ago, well like 7 or 8, i went to an all ages show at some hall in Mornington. It sucked, was like Kisschasey, Carpathian, Parkway Drive, some other dickhead hardcore and shit emo bands. I went to see the Nation Blue, and it was like me and 1 other dude watching them, although there was like 400 kids there.

Everytime i used to go to Frankston, its full of shithead emo or 'hardcore' kids, is it still like that?

give me a little while, I'll hunt down some links for you...
check Bloody Hammer or Debacle out, they both have members from Pisschrist in them.
Oh shit, and ABC Weapons!!! My fav of Yeap's bands, fucking face tearing crust assault, probs up on this site already, shall find it...

Ill have a listen to those in the morning, if i make any noise now mum will wake up and destroy me, lol.

Frankston always will be a bit of a hole, the whole hardcore/emo scene is still pretty prevalent on the Peninsula, but emo is slowly starting to bleed out (Pun Intended)and become less popular. Even the hardcore scene is suffering, because in the last three years or so its become really really popular and its been flooded with talentless bands that nobody wants to see. I guess its an example of how an underground scene can become an "Above ground" scene, the few bands that are actually alright as far as hardcore goes get drowned out in the hundreds of average hardcore bands that worship the original underground hardcore bands, and nobody gets anywhere. Punk on the other hand has a habit of staying underground, witch is good in a way because it keeps it pure, but bad because a lot of the messages associated with punk dont get any further than people who are already punks.
