In the wake of Japan's nuclear crisis, even jokes about a meltdown have become toxic.

Broadcasters in Europe have begun reviewing episodes of "The Simpsons" to make sure that one featuring a meltdown doesn't air.

The Hollywood Reporter says networks in Germany, Switzerland and Austria have all taken a close look at episodes set to air in the near future.

The show frequently features near-miss nuclear disasters at the reactor where dim-witted Homer Simpson works as a technician.

The opening credit sequence shows Homer tossing a radioactive fuel rod out of his car as he drives home.

France also censored a lot of episodes

Wow. I knew that people have been trying to cover up the dangers associated with nuclear energy, but this is ridiculous.
I wonder how long it'll before people start burning prints of the original Godzilla?

On a more serious note, however you slice it, this is more than a little fucked. While The Simpsons do poke fun at problems with nuclear power, it does so in an effort to highlight some serious issues that accompany it. I'm not trying to create some kind of conspiracy theory, but by censoring these episodes, it shows a clear bias in a lot of the media to try and hide some of the dangers associated with nuclear power. In Japan, it's reported as an "isolated incident", blamed on the tsunami; at 3-Mile Island (the plant that the one in The Simpsons is modeled after), blamed on human error; and Chrenobyl was blamed on the lack of safety measures taken during the construction and operation of the plant.

comparing the mass of detailed articles about chernobyl still coming up after 25 years the lack of reports about the japanese "incident" in the german media is more than "smelly" - even the liberal newspapers and magazines keep very quiet at the moment - about the government plans to prolong the nuclear contracts despite the planned german retreat from nuclears in general too...
