I did a search to see if this has been brought up, not too much discussion about it.

Ubuntu got so much better recently... I'm using 9.10 right now and I used it from 7.04 to 8.10 then stopped for a while when I picked up a used (broken) iMac and fixed it up. I haven't purchased an operating system in years and I don't plan to ever again. Obviously if you play PC games you'll need Windows (Wine just doesn't cut it, you can't run a lot of games on it) but... well

Anyway I'm just curious who else is using Linux. It's free (except for Xandros I think) open sourced and getting better all the time. So if anyone isn't using linux and wants to, I'd recommend Ubuntu just because it has tons of support and is more user friendly than it was even last year. If anyone needs help, I'm no expert but I've configured three or four different computers and have run into compatibility issues that are easily fixed by doing some research.

Especially if all you do is go online, write with word processors, play solitaire, listen to music, use soulseek ("nicotine plus" is the linux client for it), even if you record music there's a couple of applications for it... and if you can't always avoid supporting big business, your computer can.

I discovered linux like 10 years ago...

over the years i tryed many distributions.... Redhat, Mandrake, SuSE, ....

But in the last years i've been sticking to ubuntu. Tryed Gentoo for a while after a friend converted me, but i find ubuntu easier.

I also use Linux BackTrack for hacking peoples and stealing internet connexions so i can use internet for free ;) You can crack any wireless internet with this distribution. Good shit.

You are right about wine, or cedega for that matter. If it wasn't for games I'd run nothing but linux. (ubuntu)

they will send you a real ubuntu cd-rom FOR FREE just give them your address and they will mail it to you for free... you can even get free stickers

and yes it's real, i ordered a couple of CD's during the last years

this may be off topic but does anyone know about cracking win 7? i got a loader and a key gen (both malware free!!) but im not sure about all this slic bios shit. i got an OEM key for it (i used a retail disc that got installed already on another pc) and im wondering if that will activate it. i havent been able to plug in to internet yet cuz not at home...you think it will work? or what about that "rid WAT" program??? let me know
but yea im learning to love ubuntu...esp the way the getting packages and software works...there is a drop down menu for it...do alot less scouring the intertubes.... peace

I used to be a big linux junkie, but sort of turned away from it since my laptop's wireless card broke and now I have to use a thing that plugs into the USB port to get on the internet and I can't find a driver for it. :(

    Haha.
i was wondering if any punks used linux. i cant imagine being a punk today and using the bloated and fascist windoze when an excellent and viable alternative is so readily available! time to upgrade kids!

Folknik, I could not agree more. Why support a binopoly when there are better, free alternatives out there. I know most people don't buy their OS, but you do pay for it when you buy a computer (unless its used). Plus, all the software you have to buy (eventhough I'm sure most people bootleg non-freeware)

I was using arch at the time, but I looked for it on ubuntu since I was getting sick of arch.

The usb is some kind of belkin, N150 or something.
I found something that was supposed to work with it, but never did.
I'm going to search again right now
