wow my top ten least favorite might look something like that list, minus bad religion...

the offspring???? really???? I can;'t believe anyone who knows anything about punk could like that group of talentless sellout pieces of shit. They've ripped off so many other artists, not too mention ripped off bands on their label, and screwed over other labels also. You are entitled to your opinions and all, but now i know you like offspring, i take your opinions on music a lot less seriously now.

lol!!! the monkees music was great, mostly because they had top notch song writers and studio musicians doing the music.. as a soundtrack to a tv show i appreciate them, but as a serious band not so much... (and yes i realize you were being funny listing those asP UNK bands, but i still have a soft spot for them none the less :)

You shoulda rounded your top ten out with brittany spears, n-sync, backstreeet boys, amy wino-whore, and the band that did the macarena

yeah green day.. i don't like them much, but i have to admit to liking a few of their songs, they don't strike me as being poseurs as much as offspring, but they are just as big a sellouts. I may hate offspring more because growing up in so cal (which spawned them), when they became popular, they were all the rage here, and everyone thought they were punk if they wore an offspring tee... suddenly my high school was full of easily identifiable poseurs as the alternative crowd decided to become insta punks. at least the hair dye industry made a killing off those fuckers...

To each their own I suppose.

Talentless? Hardly. For punk rock they are near the higher end of musical ability/complexity. Certainly much more so than many of the bands which seem to be most popular around here.

The self-titled debut, Ignition, Smash, and Ixnay on the Hombre were all indie records.

Like who? They take their influences from the Pistols, the Germs, the Vandals, TSOL, etc. They have a sort of California sound like Green Day, or NOFX, or Op Ivy, and Rancid, (Offspring came first.) which makes sense as they came from the same place and share a lot of influences, but I don't see this as any more reductive than anything else. Certainly not more so than the sound of Conflict, or the Exploited, or what have you.

    Like who?

I assume you're talking about the split from Epitaph. As I understand it this was a personal dispute between the band and Bret Gurewitz. Smash had come out and was immensely popular, (Because it was a great fucking album.) setting a new record for biggest indie album of all time. Epitaph could barely keep up with the sales, but in the end it sort of made them because it was pretty unprecedented success for an indie label. Around that time Bret Gurewitz became totally preoccupied with Rancid, a much newer and less successful band. The Offspring actually helped Rancid get so big by bringing them on tour to promote "Let's Go." Anyhow, as I understand it Gurewitz essentially put all his time and energy into Rancid and this led to a personal falling out which led to them leaving the label, after they put out their last indie album, "Ixnay.." I think it's a stretch to say they 'fucked over' Epitaph, as I understand it they get along fine with Gurewitz, now.

No offense, but that's sort of ridiculous..

How many of their songs use that same ass riff, pretty fly for a white guy sounds exactly like keep em seperated. that riff is what has kept them going.

most famously thet screwed over Dr. Strange Records (a true indie label), releleasing guttermouth's first lp, because Dr. Strange never had a written contract but trusted the band, so it is as much guttermouths fault as Nitro records for screwing him over. Also, Epitaph is hardly an indie label anymore, all it's distribution is through major distros like Mordam and shit.

EHHHHH WRONG!!!!! IXnay was on columbia records. Look it up.

really, if somone claimed they liked rap and said their favorite artist was vanilla ice, or if someone said they liked techno and thier favorite artist was alice DJ, or if someone said they liked classic rock and thier favorite artist was peter and gordon, they lose as much validity as someone claiming offspring and green day are 'PUNK'.

In all fairness, your favorite artists aren't even anarcho, so posting you like them on an anarcho site is probably opening a can of worms... not too mention that none of those bands you listed are underground, which is fine and dandy if it's what you like, but most of them are major label sell outs, and most of them are stepping stone punk bands that people get into until either they grow out of punk or discover better stuff. Just my opinion of course.

Alright so I personally hate The Offspring. Just my opinion. All of their songs (generalization) sound the fucking same.
But I think you at least deserve a few kudos for defending yourself.
    Just sayin'.
