Does anyone here perform on the streets? for money or for fun?
I've been wanting to start doing this for a while, i would play acoustic and find a friend to sing
I would hope we would just cover old punk songs at first (Do they owe us a living, No more gigs, and some FEAR songs)
if anyone has any tips or tricks they could share that would be awesome.

a good sign if your bumming money.. and i have found its easyer to get money if you have good begger lines. like

ill kill goarge bush for a buck
    i need to get drunk.
just somthing to make the person see you a human not some drug additc wating for enough cash to get their fix,

i hate fuckers who just stand holding the metro door open with their hand out....

watch out when proformin though. i have seen people get there guitars smashed for playoing on some one elses block. and i have seen punks get tickets for playing inthe streets. so maybe dont hang around to long in one place.

I used to know a guy that pretty much lived off busking. He said the trick was to pick just three songs, and play them over, and over.

I usually always have an acoustic guitar when I go out in public. It helps alleviate boredom, and can make you a couple bucks for a 40 and a scratcher.

My friend plays the guitar and I sing with him... works great... something about a pretty girl who looks like she just got beat to shit tends to soften the heart... :lmao:

you need high energy songs that will get people into it. i suggest that rock lobster song or somthing like that. somthing that will make people smile and lisen. thats the trick to getting tips. you gota stand out from every other smelly fucker playing the guitar or what ever. dont just sit there playing guitar. stand up n smile while you play while swaying back and fourth with the tune. you proforming you gotta sell it.

Do you really need to earn money like this? Begging is not a game, but it could be a solution to survive, a way of life, never pleasant a lot.

Check to see if you need a licence to do it. I know you do in 90% of the UK. Could save you trouble with the police.

But Rude-boy is right, pick songs that people know, and look happy :) I've wandered through the subway and a guy was playing Saturday Night Fever and come back a couple of hours later and his hat was basically full.

It's a good laugh though I'd definitely recommend it :)

yeah, you wont make alot of money from other punx, since they are prolly ass broke as you are...

playing songs that the general public would know, is the best choice. and after a couple hours i would spot hop

No but hipsters and scenesters (are they still called that? the day-glow emo kids) are full of cash and if they like what you're wearing(studded jackets and patched pants draw their attention), they'll give you a dollar or two.

    I busk, yesterday I made £50 in 2 hours!
Here's my set, quite political. Sorry about the amount of leftist stuff in here, I've only recently "become" anarchist. I still like the songs though haha.

There is Power in a Union - Billy Bragg
Greetings to the New Brunette - Billy Bragg
A New England - Billy Bragg
    Another Mans Cause - Levellers
    Fifteen Years - Levellers
My Boulder - the King Blues
    Jumper - Third Eye Blind
World Full of Hate - Dropkick Murphys
I Fought the Law - (loads of people have done this, I do it in my own style)
Wasted Life - Stiff Little Fingers
Silver Lining - Stiff Little Fingers
Hero of War - Rise Against
Soon We'll Be Dead - Leftover Crack
Ghost of Tom Joad - Bruce Springsteen

Here's some others I don't perform on the street cuz I don't know em well enough or they're a joke or I'd probably get arrested if I played em:

One Dead Cop - Leftover Crack (Stza Crack acoustic)
Crack Rock Steady - Choking Victim
Hats of to the Zebras - Bill Bailey
Unisex Chip Shop - Bill Bailey
    Love Song - Bill Bailey
    Consumer's Song - Anti-Flag
Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
    Pala Tute - Gogol Bordello
Start Wearing Purple - Gogol Bordello
    Redemption Song - Bob Marley

I used to do magic tricks in and around DC that was a decent way to make a few dollars. Also used to play acoustic sets with some of my friends at metro/train stations. The more and more we'd make fools of ourselves the more money we'd make. Haven't done either in a couple years though.

this song would keep me from giving u aeven a lowly penny :p

I wouldn;t know this song was springsteen, but if i heard u play it while begging and knew it was by him, i might DEMAND a penny from you :p

j/k, its good to see someone out there taking money for playing guitar that might actually need it.

Third Eye Blind I heard from the film Yes Man which I quite like haha.
Ghost of Tom Joad I only know because he did it live with Tom Morello (from Rage Against the Machine & The Nightwatchman) not because I listen to Bruce haha, I don't.
