    It happenned today :

Yes, this is the beginning of so many tragic stories. Here's another one, from Columbus, Missouri, where a SWAT team busted into a house, shot two dogs -- including a corgi, for crying out loud -- in full view of a 7 year old child, and found...a little pot in the house.

A police SWAT team entered Whitworth's residence around 8:30 p.m. suspecting a large amount of marijuana at the location, police spokeswoman Officer Jessie Haden said. SWAT members encountered a pit bull upon entry, held back and then fatally shot the dog, which officers said was acting in an uncontrollably aggressive manner.
Whitworth was arrested, and his wife and 7-year-old son were present during the SWAT raid, Haden said. A second dog, which Whitworth's attorney Jeff Hilbrenner described as a corgi, also was shot but was not killed.

    And here's what they got:

Police discovered a grinder, a pipe and a small amount of marijuana, Haden said. Because the SWAT team acts on the most updated information available, the team wanted to enter the house before marijuana believed to be at the location could be distributed, she said.
"If you let too much time go by, then the drugs are not there," she said.

Yeah, he could have slipped that marijuana into his pocket and went to 7-11 to get a slurpee. They charged the father with "suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and second-degree child endangerment." Balko has the correct response:

They found a "small amount" of marijuana, enough for a misdemeanor charge. The parents were then charged with child endangerment.
So smoking pot = "child endangerment." Storming a home with guns, then firing bullets into the family pets as a child looks on = necessary police procedures to ensure everyone's safety.

    Just so we're clear

Yeah, cuz possession of drug paraphernalia is soooo much more damaging to a child than a group of fully armed swat officers busting into a home, tearing it apart and killing the family dogs.

That's terrible. Especially over marijuana. I'm glad its pretty much legal in Colorado, and I don't even smoke...

i don't even understand why the SWAT team had to use their weapons, those guys are supposedly trained to face any dangers, a dog should be the last of their worries...

They didn't even try to use cayenne pepper or something like that

And still, the sheep stay silent. Wait till they start shooting people with some cover-up stories.

I don't understand why the police over reacts that way... And they should be held responsible for killing animals as they would be for killing people! They should risk firing

On Christiania we often see 5-6 police officers in full combat suit marching up and down the street... Why? There's no violence, maybe just a person smoking or two, EVERYBODY knows there's no hard drugs.
    - But at the same time, we have shootings in the street and neo-nazi groups beating up kids and sending them to the hospital with braindamages - But then the police don't have enough ressources to do anything!

    That's the police

Same thing happened here. EXACT SAME THING

Also, police here shot a baby bear cub WITHOUT trying to rescue it, they just shot it. I hope every cop dies.

Speaking of which, I've seen soldiers drive vehicles purposely over stray dogs and cats (no dog catchers, no police), hell, I've even seen a soldier and his friend shoot at a dog as target practice with full bursts till its head literally popped. The thing is, police are far nicer/better than soldiers whom you can't defend yourself from, imagine trying to make a point to a jarhead who just wrecked your motorcycle.
