does anyone share food with people less fortunate than yourself?
    food is not a choice.
i participate with food not bombs but i don't need them to share with hungry people. it is convenient though.
sharing food with more than five people has been criminalized in my city which i think is preposterous and sick.
the homeless cannot be swept under the rug or be made to disappear and we shouldn't have to face jail-time or a criminal fine for being caring/loving. there are many people that can't afford to feed themselves sufficiently and are forced to resort to food pantries and other similar programs.
i think intercepting fruits and vegetables before they go to the garbage from grocery stores then using it to create healthy/nutritious meals is useful, progressive, intelligent and should be common sense. considering how much food is wasted in america and globally, intercepting vegetables and fruits and turning them into a meal to share with others is a worthy endeavor.
i've been homeless many times in my life, ive been broke and spread so thin financially that i needed food sharing programs to survive. i know what hunger pains are like and they're horrible.
i enjoy cooking and i enjoy sharing food with people who need or want it.
i'm very passionate about this and im interested if there are any others of like mind.

[i do have a problem with food sharing programs where the CEO of the organization is making hundreds of thousands of dollars or more in annual salary. it's a related problem but not what i'm focused on with this thread.]

*im not quite sure where to place this topic so ill take a chance with putting it here.

its a crime to share food with more than five people :ecouteurs: :o :'( thank fuck i dont live in america. keep this up comrade what you are doing is brilliant and there must be some people who really appreciate what your doing for them. unfortunately i don't take part in such a scheme and wouldn't know how to go about but i have a friend who is a passionate bin diver and every time i go to his house he gives me packets of hot cross buns which he had saved from bins and let me tell you them free hot cross buns taste so much better than bought buns. we all know we in the west waste to much food and i think if more people grew there own food then they wouldn't think of chucking it in the bin. i believe food is the greatest thing of life its awesome growing ,cooking and eating it and without it we die. please keep on feeding the hungry and you should organize a gathering where more than five people are together and have a feast just to stick the V's up to the government. \m/

there are ulterior motives to making sharing food with more than five people a crime. i haven't been able to make out why this law was enacted or what those motives are though. there are others involved with foodnotbombs that are much more intelligent than i but they haven't figured out why either, as far as i know. there are theories but im not aware of any end-of-discussion facts.
i do feel very appreciated each time i share food. the compliments i get about the food being tasty makes me smile. knowing that warm-tummy-full-of-food feeling is partly my doing warms my heart.
growing your own food is a great solution to the capitalist-corporatocracy reign of terror. unfortunately here in the states the big agribusinesses smell the blood in the water and are trying as they can to put up road-blocks everywhere to prevent small farms from being viable.
im also a fellow "bin diver". people are so wasteful. my entire apartment's furniture is from the garbage. its not cheap furnishings either. they are expensive and way out of my price range.

ye thats a crazy law. my dad works on a skip site where the cities dump goes and the things he brings home is crazy, flat screen T.V's working pergectly, furniture, plates and cuttlery and other crazy shit like a model yacht which he solt for £700 he even found a black bag of weed it was a bit moldy but there was some decent buds in there. he found a german machine gun and the armed police showed up and took it of him. people have to much money and material items that they dont know what to do with apart from chuck the stuff out it makes me bloody sick but its OK because theres people like my dad who are more than happy to take in unwanted stuff which he sells. good luck with your food scheme my friend. :D <3

Do you know what many bakeries and supermarkets do here in Germoney (hehe.. puns)?
They throw away the left over groceries in the evenings and lock the dumpsters.
Sometimes their security guards even make sure that no one has the chance to get them.
And it's needless to say that many security guards are right-wing assholes.
We have enough food in the world. More than we need. But we have to make sure that it is equally distributed.
One possibility is a planned economy or a food system run by committees in every region.
And they could make a non-monetary exchange of the grocieries.
Because region A might have more rice and region B more potatoes etc. There are different ways to organize that.
But one thing has to be sure: The food has to belong to the people, all people.
And not to some greedy ass companies or banksters. One of our biggest problems is the food speculation by banks or private investors. It pushes the prices even for basic foods and kills millions of people every year.
So it's important to stop them and to make sure that food is 100% controlled by the people.

    Absolutely true.

This might be very hard since communities usually don't have enough food for themselves and it's hard to believe they would trade in such way. It takes a lot work to organize such system and it's not practical. Each community can find food for themselves, I know some in my town who squat and get food by dumpster-diving. But would be cool to see it actually work.

About sharing food, I'd like to help people ( homeless, the ones who can't afford it ) get food they need for living and I was planning on doing in quite some time now but some personal things came in my way and I was forced to isolate myself. However, I'm still very determined about this and I hope i'll have the chance to help people in need one day.

I like doing food not bombs & feed the people, but my stupid work schedule makes it hard to be anything more than a tentative helper.

Is the more than 5 people thing a country wide thing? If not what general area?

the 5 or more people sharing law is houston only i think...so far. that being said, i see similar measures to curb sharing and helping nation-wide in the u$a.
foodnotbombs can be started in any town or city and any country worldwide. get some mates together, cook some food and share with anyone that needs it.
helpers are a vital resource in any operation.

i hope so also. so many people live for their present moment. they don't think of people around them or those below them. i find it to be very disgusting how wasteful and uncaring many are. i am enraged by the heartless apathy i am berated and pummeled with daily. my volunteer work drives me to tears.
