Hey hey from the rural farmlands of Northern California! Any other punks out there into agriculture?

All of the rural areas I've lived in up here are pretty close-knit. The neighbors would recognize a new vehicle and new people immediately in my experience, and you can be pretty sure that they've got guns. When I was working a homestead for some friends, we could recognize the sound of our neighbor's vehicles coming down the road, and would go to the gate to meet any cars we didn't know the sound of driving down. Also, depending on the area you could wind up in tweeker country, or pot country, where it is not unheard of for people to just disappear. It would be an extremely dangerous thing to do. The only way I can think of would be to try to outlaw homestead a chunk of BLM (bureau of land management) land, but the sherriffs and DEA fly those areas very regularly looking for Mexican mafia pot operations. You would also have to be wary of ranchers who have BLM grazing contracts for their livestock driving in and out to check the herds. Also pretty risky during hunting season.

Thanks guys, I found this site by accident and I'm still trying to figure out how to use it most effectively - it looks like it's for community/music downloads, but I'm not really into downloading music for free when I could be supporting the band by buying an album...

Well, you can still do both, right? :)
And I think the fact that you actually listen to the music is also supporting the band :). Also, there are lot of bands that don't play anymore, or are from different countries, or continents, and it can be pretty hard to find a record :)

I'm not sure... If the band is on an indie label, then buying the album supports that label as well as the band. If the band is on a big label, then buying that album sends a message to the label that there is interest in that type of music. If the album is available at a record store, then buying it supports a business which is in danger of being driven out by services like Amazon, and if the band sells their own albums through their own website, they make a much better margin on the sale by cutting out the middleman. Listening to the music is definitely supporting the band if you get your friends to check it out, but then if they download the music for free too, then the band is still broke and trying to crowdsource gas money for their tours... I do like to be able to check out new stuff, and if I like it I'll go and buy it, but I haven't gone through and tried to do that on this site yet - I mostly just use youtube.

Well hey, jesse, the site has a policy of removing free music if the band requests it. Not sure if that makes you feel more comfortable with it, but there ya go. It's up to you how you choose to support good tunes and talented musicians.
