Hiya, I'm City Dog, and I found this site just looking for album downloads. I live in Boston, but you can also catch me around New York a lot- I used to front a punk cabaret/deathrock band when I lived in Brooklyn. I'd love to get another band going sometime soon; mostly I'm a vocalist, but I also play a little guitar and bass, and am learning mandolin and harmonica. I also write and create visual art (graphic design, photography, mixed media). I've gotten really into hiking the past few years, and enjoy contemplating my survival in a post-apocalyptic wilderness.
deathrock is dope and needs to make a comeback. did your old band ever record? and if ya feel like posting some of yr visual art you should totally do it i've also been thinking about the collapse lately - it's hard for me to imagine surviving from an urban perspective, since hunting/gathering in the city mostly just means shoplifting and dumpster-diving.... and that sort of survival wouldn't really be sustainable if shit were to hit the fan lol
Yeah, you can listen to our demo and EP on Bandcamp; I'm kinda self-conscious about it because I've transitioned and sing baritone now, so my former voice sounds really nasally and weird to me. I have an Instagram where I sometimes post concert photos, and oughta put some more visual art up too, here's the link if you wanna take a look. I've always lived in an urban area, which is how I got the name City Dog, but adapted quickly after being on trail for awhile. I think if shit hits the fan, it'll be important to get out of the city as quickly as possible, and my hope is that I'd be able to help teach other urban folks- punks, queers, poc, everybody- how to survive and thrive. I've actually been thinking about starting a group that goes on hikes and camping trips to share skills and help one another learn survival skills.
Interesting choice of instruments. I'll take a listen in the not too distant future. Wilderness survival skills are important in this day and age. Do you know how to identify edible plants and mushroom? That's very important to know if you're going to leave the urban jungle behind, and survive in the wilderness. (Also how to purify water so it's potable)
I haven’t learned much about foraging yet, but I’ve been hiking the Appalachian Trail, so I have a good water filter. I’d definitely like to learn more about living off the land. Are you into foraging?
It's something I'm interested in, but haven't really been active about as of late. Also mycology. My main focus at the moment is taking care of my mother, and playing music, so I have pretty much lapsed on most things concerning nature.
