I was there remember? Anyway that post is pretty old and it was before I really started to dislike the place...which is all a moot point because as of now the Metaphor has one show left and is closing for good...
whoa really? for what reason?

SoCal has a pretty ok scene. I still don't like paying 20 bucks to see a few bands, but what can you do?

absolutely don't support shows that charge $20. That's what you do, and don't tell me you can't find great shows that are affordable because I live here too....

$20 is way too much for a punk show. They've lost their way, that's what I think.
Punk scenes in Wisconsin are actually pretty hopping so if you're ever passing through there's a lot of stuff to check out.
I live in Madison right now and there's a pretty big scene here. Used to be grander, punks had a warehouse called Mierda Vierde about five or six years ago that was pretty huge. Then a liberal-progressive newspaper wrote a story about how dangerous punks are in general, something about someone falling and getting hurt I think, and the police had to come shut it down. Police didn't even care about it before that. Then there was a punk house Subvert City that just recently shut down after 20+ years. Was kind of sad. But the scene is still big and a lot of cool bands come through. I used to live in a coop house and used to book shows out of there. Defiance Ohio came a few years ago, was really cool. During summers there's usually about three shows a week.
Milwaukee is also really big. There are a ton of different scenes, a few punk bars (Frank's Power Plant is almost exclusively punk). And there are a lot of punk houses. Scheme City, Michael Jordan's Scramz Dunkarena, plus others just named after the streets they're on. And a lot of them are anarchists or really politically charged, so good people all around. Also emo/screamo is welcome and frequently played. Problem is that with lots of scenes there are a good amount of misogynistic grind and hardcore folks, some hardcore bros too. Not a problem if you maintain vigilance and kick their chauv asses out. Plus there's a punk scene up north in Appleton and a few smaller folk punk scenes farther north. Real charming folks.
I hope I can get out to SoCal soon. I've heard a lot of great things about the punks there and would love to see it.

We (No Brainer) are reviving the punk scene here in Greenville NC. It died over the past few years but now we're resurrecting it and have a pretty good turnout and some passionate kids who truly need the outlet and the environment. Besides us, though, it's dead as a doornail around here. I wish someone would prove to me otherwise...

I live in Galway (the west coast of) Ireland. There isn't much of a scene here. This place is full of hippies and as a result there's a huge electronic music scene (which I'm down with!)
There is this one rock music bar that occasionally has some punk bands from all over Ireland and Europe. All the bands that come there are amazing, but it's a pity the crowd usually sucks! It's only when me and my friends are there do people start moshing!

Next Sunday, DOOM is coming to my city. Seeing Casualties (bleh) and Dayglo Abortions on the 17th, saw Sum 41 on tuesday at an arena (tix were an xmas gift). In feb I saw Despise You. So I'd say my scenes pretty good.
