Yeah, I know people that quit smoking for years and start again, blah, blah, blah...

Well done for missing the point.

That the addict is the last to realize they addicted? I not the one that missed that, mate.

The point I was making was that meat isn't an addictive product. Speaking as someone who has experienced addiction I know what withdrawal symptoms are. I have also stopped eating meat for prolonged periods of time and guess what? No withdrawal symptoms.

Well either you the only veg*n I known that never craved, or you a liar. You saying you experienced no physical/psychological affects at all? That would be strange, as your body would have to adjust to a different diet.

That's a complete myth. Yes, you do need to get all those proteines and minerals and vitamins and stuff but it's fully possible to get it from a veg diet, you just have to read a lot about vegetarian nutrition first so you know where to find all those things. If you eat lots of beans and lentils and you eat it every day you'll get plenty proteine. Also eat lots of vegetables of different kinds since they contain different goodness, and eat seeds and nuts cos they contain a bunch of healthy stuff as well (to not go in to what is in what cos that's just gonna take pages up and down on here). If you want to go vegetarian you will still eat milkproducts and eggs i assume since lacto- ovo- vegetarians are the most common kind of vegetarians, and that makes it much easier to get all that proteines you need then if you would go vegan. Maybe you can start slow with one vegetarian day a week and then two, and so on, so you'll be able to take it gradually instead of doing it all at once. Even the most notorious meateaters can't agree that one day a week without meat could harm you. If your family isn't all ok with vegetarian food, convince them to eat waffles a bit more often :P

Their lying to you!!!!!! I'm 14 and I've been vegetarian for 8 months and vegan for 5. I've never been this healthy in my life and I continue to grow despite what they tell you (I'm actually 6 1" which is a redonkulous height for someone my age and I am not projected to stop growing any time soon) .

Let's keep our feet on the ground.. It's POSSIBLE for a teenager, or maybe even a small child to be perfectly healthy on a vegan diet. A lot of things are possible. Actually doing it is a different ball of wax. Teenagers need a lot of fuel because they're growing so fast and using so much energy. Even on a more traditional omnivorious diet some find it difficult to meet their energy needs. Of course, there are a lot of x factors, like genes, metabolism, lifestyle, etc., etc. I have doubts about you're average adults' ability to create and follow a balanced vegan diet plan, for teenagers, subtract a few points. (No offense, intended.) I'd actually really love to see a large nutritional survey of vegans, but I digress..

This, with extra emphasis. Any diet plan should be carefully constructed and one should consult a professional, like a nutritionist, or at least do some research beforehand.

I'd also suggest thinking seriously about the motivation. Why are you trying to go vegan? Also, it's not necessarily a zero-sum game. I'm what I guess you'd call a "semi-tarian" I eat meat a few times a week, and only once in a day.

Yeah, well some people only shout racial slurs or abuse their partners when they're really pissed off. :P

Anyways, I've been vegan since I was 16. I've been pretty fit all the while, not that I'm in it for health reasons. I have a terrible vegan diet. I knew how to maintain a 'healthy' vegan diet, but I didn't give a shit about that.

For sure, vegan diet is more tricky than lacto-ovo-vegetarian. You can be healthy with latter without thinking much about it at all, more healthy than unplanned omnivore diet, probably. Vegan diet you got take more care, and be more in tune with your body. Even best vegan diet can slip up, you body will tell you if that's happening, and how, but you got to be able to read the signs. Not sure how that be possible when caring for young child, though breast milk is vegan, despite what some might say.

It was a joke. Most products for men are marketed in a very heterosexist way. Did I decide to make things like that? No.

I've been off/on vegetarianism since before I was your age due to influence from my animal rights activist mother (even though she wasn't vegetarian herself until later in life), and I've grown strong and fine. All nutrients contained in meat are readily available in a properly planned vegetable-based diet, without all the disgusting additional substances and needless suffering. Many young vegetarians make the mistake of eating too much easy to prepare "junk food" and not enough vegetables, and get vitamin or mineral deficiencies as a result. If you're considering vegetarianism, take the time to read articles and books on nutrition before you take the plunge. A healthy, meat-free diet goes further than ordering from Taco Bell instead of McDonald's (however, an anarchist shouldn't be eating at either), eating macaroni and cheese or peanut butter sandwiches for every meal. You need to learn to cook meals, or at least have a family member who understands your nutritional needs prepare them, and attempt to get more servings of green leafy vegetables than your body even needs.

Each creature only gets one life on this planet (I'm assuming you're not religious), so do you really want to be the reason that life was taken? Cows and pigs have every right to a natural, free life that we do. Humans are blessed with brilliant brains and ingenuity, something that should be used to preserve life and freedom for all sentient animals, from chickens to human beings, instead of exploiting them.

If you're going vegetarian and have concerned parents, doing the suggested research beforehand will be a great assistance for any arguments or questions they have. You should keep some books on hand to show them. I used to keep copies of vegetarian cookbooks and nutritional guides in the kitchen, in case my parents decided to randomly thumb through them and learn something without me pressuring them in discussion. This eventually lead to my mother becoming vegetarian after reading a Dean Ornish book on a healthy meat-free diet with an emphasis on weight loss.

Good to see someone young and interested in something substantial rather than Playstations and typical social drama. Keep it up!

If I can't eat meat, I don't want to be part of your revolution... (usually used by people in the syndicalistic youth group as a joke)

But I don't wanna be forced to eat or not eat meat.
We are anarchists, we shouldnt even debate about veganism. It's up to you if you'll eat meat or not.
We should debate society, revolution, classtruggle, solidarity and other serious buisness.
Enogh is enough I've had enough of these eco-vegan-anarchistic-debating.

damn yea i got respect for vegans who pay for all their food and live on their own.. you cant even eat a bag of chips without eating some part of an animal
plus theres animal fat in pipes so you gotta watch tap water too.
i was vege twice. each time for around 4 months and i just kept losing too much weight each time. id eat as much as i could but shit just didnt work. i used to make bomb ass tofu pot pie. get tofu, mixed vegies, mushroom gravy and a piecrust and stick that shit in the oven.. mmmm
i also roasted shit in olive oil, like taters nuts tomatos artichokes broccoli spinach and then top it with cheese
make a giant serving and then have leftovers for your meals during the week.
yea so i already have a smaller body and i just couldnt keep my weight on, so i figured i have to put my own body before the lives of animals.
more power to yea if your vegan or vege
religion and all its mental gymnastics..
