Do you think an anarchist society can effectively study science, make discoveries, invent, provide medical care, etc?? :ecouteurs:

At its best, science is largely a peer based system of consensus based on reasoned evidence, so I see no reason why not.

Scientific progress is expensive, and becomes even more so the further it develops. Research is not guaranteed to pay off, how many dead ends have we reached in the pursuit of a cure for cancer? This makes it a lower priority for resources than present survival needs and long-term civil projects. So the only way that scientific progress can be supported is with surplus resources. Pacifist communities who put ethics before efficiency and ensure that every member of the community has their needs fufilled above all else are unlikely to have much to spare. Even aggressive capitalist nations have been relying on international cooperation for projects like the International Space Station or the Large Hadron Collider.
Granted, being technologically advanced isn't the bottom line of a civilization's success. The improvement of the lives of it's citizens is. There's no guarantee that technology holds more solutions than problems for humanity. Can you honestly say you're happier than a caveman?

If you had, somehow, created an anarchist society the size of ours today, definitely, science would be a large part of that society. We always invision a small group when talking about anarchy, which is realistic, but comparatively, science would be just as big a part, if not bigger, in a anarchist society of half a billion. At least, I would think.

the only difference will be that science in anarchist society will not serve interest of rich individuals than of society.
scientists today get funds from corporations and they make researches attractive for corporations, in other case, they will not get money.
corporations decide today what will be researched, the same as church in the middle age.
