Schools Taking Away Student Rights

Schools Taking Away Student Rights

Postby Never.Forget.7.01.11. on 26/03/2012, 08:17

It is fair to say that the dress code of every school can be a debatable topic in a board meeting. Personally, I find the school system becoming even more discriminative, sexist, and facist in their conservative and idealistic rules that are laying down like governmental laws. Girls, especially, are the ones who are labeled as "promiscuous" and "inappropriate" with their fashion sense. Curvier girls will be persecuted for shorts that are reasonably long, whereas skinnier girls with less shape are let free with their asses hanging out. There is also a censorship on certain "offensive" clothing material. The administration is so worried about teenagers being portrayed as "sexual", but they need to face the truth. Teenagers are going to have sex just like they have for as long as humans have been walking the earth. They need to get over their insecurities and let teenagers express themselves through their image. For example, there is a young lady in my first period class who is CONSTANTLY getting in trouble for her shorts because if the shorts were to be fingertip length, they would be bermudas. In contrast, a girl who's a year younger will be ignored when her shorts show her entire fucking ass. This is just not right and embarassing that women are shown inferior to men once again.
Then there is this "offensive" or "explicit" material. Where does the first amendment protect us? We're supposed to have freedom of speech. Freedom of EXPRESSION. The truth is we were never free. To this day, two-hundred and thirty-six years later, we are still oppressed by our over-powered conservative government. Why can't we wear shirts that support the legalization of marijuana? Why can't I wear my Sex Pistols shirt? Or my Green Day "Kerplunk!" shirt? What is wrong with a teenager expressing their views through their clothing? They say we have freedom of speech? Bullshit. As long as we are in an institution that oppresses its people we're fucking prisoners crumbling under their power hungry fingers. Right now, I'm sitting in a Journalism class. I write and I write waiting for a day to go by when I know that I can fight the system and win. Fuck the system. Fuck the administration. And Fuck the stupid Fucking dress code.

fuck yeah man! that's exactly what i have been saying to teachers, to my parents and any other **** who agrees with uniform ect. i tried to wear my sex pistols shirt, was told it was not appropriate because it says bollocks. but i have the shirt, i have seen it, everyone has seen it, it's in shop windows and in HMV. it's all about control! even on 'dress down' days, i can't wear certain things! it's bullshit

I feel your pain. In Australia majority of schools have uniforms, they really just makes me feel like I'm a braindead zombie blindly obeying their system. It also pisses me off when they pick on girls for the length of their dress.

One of the supervisors at my school made me take off a crossed out swaztika patch of my hooide. This year I'll be sporting a leftover crack hoodie that says shoot the kids at school. Lets see how long I can manage wearing that haha.

yea fuck that shit. got in trouble for wearing a sex pistols shirt, continued wearing it, got a detention. so i took it, stopped wearing the shirt, who cares it's just a shirt, right?
fast forward a couple months, had a studded bracelet. my principle told me i have to take it off i refused. 3 detentions later i got an ISS. well my parents were pissed so fuck it. "it's just a bracelet"
two days later i was told i can't wear a bad religion shirt because it could offend some people.
line crossed. flipped at my principle telling him keep religion out of school and freedom of expression is my right
he said i surrender my rights the second i walk through the school.
needless to say in the middle of a quiz, still enraged i stood up, screamed as loud as i can "FUCK THIS SHIT" and stormed out.
next day i wore a bad religion shirt, a studded jacket, a bracelet and refused to take anything off

Bwahahaa...

Uniform was pretty much the only rule that was enforced on anything resembling a regular basis. I did actually get a detention once for deliberately "forgetting" my sports uniform for PE (that and a class detention for a bunch of students that just decided to act like tools that I was caught in were the only detentions I ever got). Aside from that, I had the distinct impression that the teachers cared about the rules about as much as much as we did (aka pretty much not at all), only bothering to enforce where things were *really* out of line (it should be noted, to get the uniform detention, I pretty much had to leave the uniform at home over several weeks). It was for instance against the rules to visit the local shopping mall during recess, lunch, or blank periods.

Probably half the school visited the place during lunch. I understand that a few of the teachers regularly went over there amongst students and turned a blind eye to it. I doubt they'd ever say as such (as they'd get in trouble for doing so from the govvie), but I often saw the teachers head over there at lunch. Students usually came back just in time for the next class, or *slightly* late (it was a large enough school that you could get away with being up to 5 minutes late to class).

I *loved* my highschool.

I just graduated High School. I feel your pain. Besides the whole dress code issue, there's the fact that they can search your shit any time they please for any fucking reason. One day the principle just comes trapesing into my class, pulls me aside, and tells me that she's going to search through my personal belongings because she heard a rumor that I had marijuana on me. Fortunately, I didn't. Of course, nobody gets upset about this sort of thing. Everyone just cheerily goes along with it. Somebody gets drug searched at school or dress coded, oh it's a-o-fucking-kay. We're just trying to keep the school "wholesome". Since when was violating human rights wholesome? Ridiculous people, man

Maybe the shit that we deal with in school isn't as serious as what others deal with as a consequence of the system's corruption, but the fact of the matter is that authoritarianism is authoritarianism. Sure, being dress coded isn't that big of a deal, sure having someone search through your back pack against your will isn't all that bad, but these are all symptoms of a greater problem. The point is that we live in a society that is okay with this, that is complacent in the face of our rights being chipped away at. If we put up with this shit on a smaller level, it becomes that much easier to put up with it when it becomes more serious. Besides, who the fuck are you to mock us for openly talking about these problems? What have you done that makes you such a big, bad anarchist?

when i was in high school (it seems like so long ago!) i never wore a hat until my school instituted a "no hats" policy. i came in the next day wearing a nice fedora my grandmother had found me at a yard sale, and kept wearing it until they gave me a saturday detention. i went down, but i went down as somewhat of a hero.

Back when I was in high school (which was 10 years ago) they would come up with the stupidest dress codes. One year they made all the guys tuck in their shirts if it wasn't a button down that was unbuttoned. That didn't last long. They did put in a no hat rule too but that didn't last long either. They changed that one to where you just couldn't wear the hat in the building. Of course there was the no sagging pants one but no one enforced that unless your pants were pass your ass. The school I went to was kinda relaxed about dress code. Every year they would come up with something that would last about half the first semester then be forgotten.

I think we can all agree that the school system is complete and utter bullshit. my friend got told to cover his crossed out swastika patch on his jacket. there are many, many problems with the school system. and i definitely recommend whatching the documentary "the war on kids" for a detailed observation of the school system and what it does to children. it covers topics from drug usage to dress code to police authority inside schools. i really enjoy it every time i watch it. i can be found on youtube if anyones interested. :good:
cause the system thrives on ignorance, what the public dont know they cant reject. and in the face of you all, i stand defiant. the rest of the people, they want to forget.
