Depends on who you are and where you live, what your situation's like. Best thing to do is assess your skills and shit as if you were going to go looking for employment, and brainstorm ways to make money off of what you can (or can't) do. As far as personal experience...I'm not familiar with Oregon but in California, if you look young enough and tone down the punk look a little bit, suburban downtowns and town centers are good for busking. Especially if the community's made up mostly of yuppies and their high school kids. They'll see you as a neighborhood kid going through a phase instead of a vagrant, and pay you a couple of dollars just to humor you, more if they've been drinking. They mostly like the kind of music that's played on American Idol, like classic rock and Rod Stewart. Suburbs are good resources for can collecting too, because a lot of people are getting into recycling. Apartment complex recycling dumpsters are the best, especially right before trash pick up day. You could average around eight dollars per yuppie recycling dumpster, and it takes like an hour and half. You can go house to house too but if you do it during the day you'll attract attention and at night if you make too much noise they'll call the cops.


Or, hang out at Home Depot with the illegals (dunno if this phenomenon exists in Oregon or not). If competitions tough, you're not supposed to but if you have food stamps you could sell them groceries at discount prices.
Also not legal, but you could sell bootlegs,
What I might think of doing is working under the table doing landscaping, dog walking, house cleaning, etc. Sell street food to drunk clubbers and bar hoppers.

the ways i make/made my money without a job

-make shirts/patches (screenrprinting...this guy teached me how! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmlW0hnu3WE )
-street preformances (i used to play some amebix,nirvana,dinosaur jr and black flag tunes on a acoustic guitar and sing along hehehe)
-sell shit you dont use (good way of ''recycling'' haha...and if nobody buys it...give it away )
-work as roadie for bands you're friends with (well...i dont really make money with it, but i get free entrace to shows,beer and sometimes food!)
-DUMPSTER DIVING!! (no really!!! if you see what some people throw away... i found a amp there one time which i fixed up and sold for 200 bucks haha!)

those are some of the methods i did
but i think it depends per area you live...im from holland and everything is pretty easy down there in my opninion...+ its a really tiny country haha

If you need serious and safe cash, you need to hustle.
You could sell weed but it's hard as fuck to get into the circle if you're not in one already. The only people who make money are the high up dealers, who've risen to the top over years of work. A lot of times it's more work for less money than getting a shit job some of the time, plus with risk of arrest.
Hustle something else, get creative.
Police watch for drugs, they watch for robbery but they just don't understand scams and hustles and shit like that.

For example, I live in Madison right now, you know, among all the rich ass students and shit. Anyway, they leave by the tens of thousands every few months, many of them abandon their (sometimes very expensive) bikes behind. I clip the locks, polish them up a bit and sell them to the next round of students or whoever else on Craigslist. It's easy, exciting (even though they're abandoned, the police still see it as theft obviously) and lucrative. Plus gives you a chance to work those social manipulation and bourgeois camouflage skills, very necessary. Sometimes that expands to mopeds. We make serious fucking money, way over $50 an hour if we actually calculate it that way.

Find a hustle, stick with it and put the work in and you'll make way more money than a job.
If you live in a college town, do that, you will make so much more money than a job. Just don't get greedy and go stealing people's bikes cuz that's nasty and wrong and will get the police on you.

Oh and while doing that, definitely take out the dole or foodstamps like Butcher said. And make sure you listen to the Cock Sparrer song about it while you do it.

DON'T ROB BANKS, cuz it's hard. Unless you do it with a laptop. Identity theft is the way to go these days, computers make you untouchable if you're good as hell with them. Rob movie theaters or places you know suuuper well (restaurants you once worked at where you know there's only one person counting the money after x-o-clock). But you might need a gun for that depending. Get a gun regardless. After all crime is the ultimate form of resistance. Attack that economy!
