I'm in the middle of reading Hardcore Zen: Punk Rock, Monster Movies, & the Truth about Reality and The Complex: How the Military Invades Our Everyday Lives .

I would recommend Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass and Ishmael. :)

Right now I'm reading Peter Hamilton's The Reality Dysfunction. Someone recommended him to me so I'm giving him a go, good so far.

In terms of my own recommendations, well, for those into fantasy Stephen Donaldson's Thomas Covenent series is bloody good. He's also written a sci-fi series which I will get around to reading sometime soon.

The book I've really enjoyed most recently is Barbara Kingsolver's The Lacuna. It's historical fiction set in the US and Mexico in the 1930s-50s.

Re-reading Living My Life Vol 1-2

Id definitely recommend Off The Map. Its one of the Crimethinc books. One of my favourites, really well written and cheap as hell!

Also No Logo and Rebel Life : Murder By The Rich.

May seem like an obvious recommendation but the amount of people i know who have not read Cather In The Rye is truly astounding.

Something completely different, but does anyone else read the National Geographic mags?
I would highly recommend them for the photo's alone and I'm not even into photography. The stories are good too and they don't seem to be too afraid to touch on social or environmental probs, however their main objective is and always will be to sell by giving info, to finance further studies.
Then again you get about 1 mag each month for about 25 bucks (in Euros anyway).

Uhh, right now reading a book that's a mashup of Spider Robinson and Robert Heinlein. Previous to this one a star wars book, and next up is a book on the rise and fall of socialism.

I would recommend "Please Kill Me: An Uncensored Oral History of Punk" by Legs McNeil and somebody else. Reading that book helped me really understand what punk was about, and it was only a matter of time until I discovered anarcho-punk and fell completely in love

I'd suggest Calvin & Hobbes - IMHO it's the most essential reading material ever committed to paper. Six-year-old anarchists with tiger best friends are a winning combo.

I read Slaughterhouse-5 by Kurt Vonnegut and I absolutely loved it. Kurt discribes the book (In the book) as anti-glacier satire, because writing an anti-war book is like writing an anti-glacier book. ..They're both unstoppable. Overall, the book was hilarious and very, very sad at the same time. Definately a must-read. I also really loved the Lord of the Flies, and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy still stands as my all-time favorite. Currently I'm reading George Orwell's 1984, and it's looking promising so far. (Also Badman, I read Catcher in the Rye and I fucking hated it!)

What are you currently reading?

Postby nodz on 27/05/2010, 20:21

What are you currently reading/re-reading.

I have several books on the go at any one time, I pick them up and read a chapter and then move onto something else. Current books on the go are:
1) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J.K.Rowling
2) Anarchism and Other Essays - Emma Goldman
3) A Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
4) Mythic Astrology - Ariel Guttman

Just finshed
1) At the Cafe - Errico Malatesta
2) The Anarchist Revolution - Errico Malatesta

Just Received a copy in the post of
1) God and the State - Mikhail Bakunin
...and see if it is not the law itself, the government, which really creates crime by compelling people to live in conditions that make them bad. See how law and government uphold and protect the biggest crime of all, the mother of all crimes, the capitalistic wage system, and then proceeds to punish the poor criminal. A.Berkman

I just finished reading The Catcher In The Rye (i'm still confused on how that book was tied to the assassination of John Lennon or the attempted assassination of Reagen) and last week i finished reading To Kill A Mockingbird. I've started reading Harp In The South or some shit by an Australian author. i'm sure at one point or another everyone was forced to read these at school...but managed to find away to complete the assignments without having to read the book....classics, excellent now i'm out of highschool.

Last thing I read was "The Undiscovered Self" by Carl Jung. Real nice little book.
