BURNT CROSS "In nature we Trust" EP
Fans of '80s anarcho / peace punk take note - BURNT CROSS just crossed a time warp and they are here to fly the flag of anthemic, politically charged melodic punk. The vocals (and lyrics) are the highlight here, appealing to the lowest common denominator in the same way as classic bands like SUBHUMANS and CRASS..... I realise that those are lofty comparisons, and I certainly do not think that BURNT CROSS reaches that status, but their delivery is certainly comparable. These are infectious tunes, so catchy that not only did i forget the drum machine, I fucking forgot it was there before the first song was over. How good is this record ? I have already fired off an e-mail to the label, ordering myself copies of the first two BURNT CROSS EPs. (MRR#316)

Burnt Cross - "what hope tomorrow" EP
This is fucking great anarcho-punk. It has loads of power due to the nature of the recording. The sound is fuzzy and distorted, yet accompanied by great hooks. What makes BURNT CROSS interesting is that the vocalist sounds angry and he is backing up his lyrics with bite. Can't stand bands that don't sound like they mean it and BURNT CROSS are not guilty of this. Four tracks on this disc that are well worth searching out. Burnt Cross just use BOSS900cdr 8 track to record, i only have a guitar and mic and thats it, i dont do computor based music, the drum machine is in-built and so i record that live cos im shit at programming (ie- i have to turn knob when chorus comes in etc) then just lay gutair down and bass (which is just one guitar string through one of the effects) and then my bro comes over once every 6 weeks and lays his vocals down.
The machine cost £275 but its cheaper now and has suited us great, released 6 7"s and and LP from it and all is going good, with a split 7" with Cress coming up soon so worked well for me.

gracias!! that sounds great. I got a 4 track at a yard sale for 3 us dollrs and I may try to mix with that. I dont know how to play a guitar although i heard it's easier than a frenchhorn, sax, trumpet with i can play. Lyrics have been in the making since the 1989... thanks for the advice...

I've had the albums for a few months now.

A local punk performer did a one man show locally, but he has declined to do "politic@l" work anymore... take care.

BURNT CROSS - "Brian Haw" EP
A US re-press of this Brighton, England duo's third EP that was issued in very limited quantity in the UK in 2008. BURNT CROSS is one of the strongest current bearers of the UK anarcho punk tradition a la SUBHUANS, CONFLICT, and CRASS, and this four song EP showcases the basic stripped-down music that frames their anarcho-punk rants delivered in a thick UK accent. What's hilarious is the accent and language that was spread all around the world by the Empire where the sun never sets sounds perfect for ripping the British government to pieces with lyrical condemnation 200 or so years later. The long lyrical rants just don't have the same bite spit out in Californian "yeah dude" or a Southern drawl, which explains why still to this day there are bands from Encinitas or Corona singing in UK accents. The great, heavily accented vocalist here adds considerable force to lyrics about police treatment of war protestor Brian Haw, the (formerly) current UK government under Gordon Brown and environmental destruction. The music is at first listen somewhat simple mid-tempo anarcho punk, but the simplicity masks its underlying creativity, making it an ace EP. (KS)

I find this generalization of California Anarcho-Punk to be a ridiculous stereotype and also full of shit, 'yeah dude' culture is not Ca., it is part of it but that represents less than 5% of this culture.. Latinos don't say 'yeah dude' and we have a lot to be angry and defiant about and Anglophile 's don't have a clue about what the fuck we go through here in order to survive the oppression not only from the State and police but from the inherently racist majority of the rest of the population. Also any band that sings with a UK accent here is not accepted so I don't understand what the fuck this MRR reviewer is jabbering on about. Burnt Cross is alright but we have bands here that rip them to pieces, Captain Planet and Death Crisis alone.....not to mention Crucifix and Diatribe

Yeah its just a review, i wouldnt get angry about it, i agree that people all over suffer opression and couldnt care about anglophile reviewers who like the accent, he should of used his head a bit more if it was gonna cause offence but if you picked apart every review in MMR you could debate for years..

As for the other bands ripping Burnt Cross apart well who cares, some people like Burnt Cross more than these bands, its just a matter of opinion, we aint doing music to be better than anyone or compete, we will leave that to childish rock/pop fans . We just do this band as a non-profit DIY project to get a message out, not to say "ooooh were better than you" , thats sucks
