The 4th Annual Los Ángeles Bookfair is just around the corner and we need your help! The bookfair is here again to celebrate Los Ángeles' histories of popular movements, militant worker actions, revolts, radical thinkers, non-conformists, and communities that carry the seeds for a new society. This once-a-year event is for friends, comrades and the curious to build bridges with each other in our existing and emerging struggles, and with our cities' radical past. We call on our anti-authoritarian rebel rousers, as well as those curious abut anarchism, to come out and celebrate on September 8th at Barndall Art Park in Los Ángeles! This yearly celebration is an open space to share anti-authoritarian political ideas that can be enjoyed at any capacity; pick up some literature, sell & distribute your own literature / art, attend workshops, check out talks, or just mingle. The bookfair relies entirely on the various communities that piece it together! So we need your help! Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering, speaking and or tabling! What Is Anarchism? A Special Report From The 4th Annual LA Anarchist Book Fair This comes from Uprising Radio... http://uprisingradio.org/home/2012/09/2 ... book-fair/ Anarchists from around the nation gathered at the Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood on September 8, for the 4th annual Los Angeles Anarchist Bookfair. Alternative publishers, do it yourself printers, artists, musicians and political activists converged on the small park for a day of discussion about the the past present and future of the often-misunderstood philosophy of anarchism. Los Angeles anarchists were treated to an array of literature, lectures, and workshops on topics ranging from union organizing in Southern California, the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, and the possibilities of a “stateless” world. Often characterized as hooligans by the mainstream, anarchists are actually the inheritors of a long and complex philosophy questioning the morality of Government and its relationship to people. Born in Europe in the 19th century, Anarchism rejects all forms of hierarchy in favor of complete equality between individuals. Here in the United States, anarchists were early allies to organized labor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and, anarchist ideas of non-hierarchical organization, consensus building, and resistance to unrestrained capitalism now feature prominently in the strategy and tactics of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
