Discuss anarcho-punk music and music in general, the punk & skinhead movements and the scene, your favorite bands and albums, etc...

Been in hospital for a couple of days now (nothing to worry about) and so I'm getting a little bit bored. To stimulate myself, and maybe some new anarcho-punk chat on here, I thought I'd ask you all which song lyrics do you think are particularly good at capturing anarchism or an anarchist sentiment. I guess I'm thinking 'direct advocacy' kind of stuff rather than the more negative anti-system type stuff. I think Conflict have captured quite well a few times, such as an 'CRASS' and '1986, The Battle Continues' but actually can't think of too much. What about your fine selves?

Are most of the lyrics not up on this site because of the resources/time? Or is it due to releasing the "secrets" out to the web? Are most Anarcho-Punk lyrics already readily available elsewhere on the web? So its no big deal to include them with the downloads? Whats the thinking behind this site? Im not trying to start shit, genuinely intrigued.

Cheers, Mar, I'll get right on that. Recently downloaded The Instigators album from here, really like that. Another song that I like in it's expression of a cooperative/anarchist message is Subhumans' "Us Fish must Swim Together". The reason, I imagine, that lyrics aren't included is because they'd take up a lot of space on a thread and not many of us have them in a document to be downloaded. Besides that, most of them are easy enough to discover on the net. For the benefit of those who don't know the Subhumans lyrics I mentioned: OK let's start at the beginning / When fishes roamed the sea / They swam around before anything else / In ten million years B.C. / Then one day they decided / To evolve into vertebrates / And a few came out of the water / And got drunk to celebrate Soon, well when I say "soon" I mean / A coupla million years / They evolved into various quadrupeds / With legs and things and ears / And about a trillion aeons later / They went all civilized / And built lots of bombs and council flats / That reached into the skies The moral of this tale, you see /We are descended from the fish / And if we progress much further / We'll put our lives at risk / We're starting to destroy ourselves / With pollution, war, and greed / When food and sex and water / Is all we really need / When "sink or swim" is the choice you get / You cannot swim forever / You need support to keep you alive / Us fish must swim together!

Listening to the Balagan album now. I just downloaded it on the recommendation with no prior knowledge - I'd assume it was to be some straight-ahead rough and ready discore. Wow, was I wrong! This is a totally unexpected treat. Nice one.

A great song by the Subhumans, Subvert City. This shit is really moving.
We arent bad people we just want to be FREE. "They're only going through a phase Kids are all the same They don't know their own right minds It's only a silly game They don't know what their talking about They just talk a load of shit If we just ignore them They'll forget about it Parental love is just a farce Don't be taken for a ride We know you're only young But feel free to speak your mind Do not work and do not pray Ignore the bores at school Live your life your own way Don't be nobody's fool"

You are more than welcome to post lyrics whenever you feel inspired to do so, I just don't do it because of time, and it's really a lot of work just to keep the links refreshed, mediafire has obliterated a lot of our friends blog's that shared their links with us so it's getting harder and harder to find good downloads... The second albums lyrics are much more explicitly anarchist...haha I could see how you might think that..

Been listening to them both a lot. It's great. I could really imagine being arm-in-arms, beer in hand singing some of these live! Would be great. 'Our Parade' for example. Great stuff.

"Our leaders write the roles from behind masked faces Always hiding the reality of their true intentions And like puppets we act out the roles Of a tragedy that never ends And the plot always thickens as the death rate quickens And the human soul sickens with war always the means to the end So how many times must Rome burn Before the crucial lesson of history is learned? Power kills, destroy everything that power builds
You're sucked into place by your own admittance Self imposed enslavement And though you curse your king how can it mean anything When you worship cult of leadership? It takes only one to lead but must the rest of us follow? The whole is but the sum of it's parts Do you act that part? Do you fit that part? And how many times will we rebuild Rome Only to watch it burn? Power is death Power is death
These are the elements
Of oppression!" - elements of oppression by Antischism-
cause the system thrives on ignorance, what the public dont know they cant reject. and in the face of you all, i stand defiant. the rest of the people, they want to forget. -SUBHUMANS
Are you prepared to die for your beliefs or just to dye your hair? -Subhumans
punk aint no religious cult, punk means thinkin for youself, you aint hardcore cause you spike your hair when a jock still lives inside your head -DEAD KENNEDYS
You talk of overthrowing power with violence as your tool You speak of liberation and when the people rule Well ain't it people rule right now, what difference would there be? Just another set of bigots with their rifle-sights on me -crass
