A friend of mine says that defiance is a shitty band and that they're sellouts like the casualties, i don't know them to well (we wasnt saying this to me btw)
What are your thoughts on it?

I don't think they're nearly as well known as the casualties, so I wouldn't call them sellouts. Definitely very influential in american streetpunk circles. I used to like them back in the day, they're just not my cup of tea now.

They have really good lyrics and I like the energy in their music. Besides, the vocal line is always different and powerful, because it always sounds better when two of the band members are singing and the bass player is really riding the bass. About the guitarist and the drummer, I can't say more than "fast and clean". But they are really good and they do their shit for long time and still they haven't changed their style and that's a good thing.

Defiance aren't that great, the bands they formed before Defiance are much better: Deprived, Resist etc.
The Portland punk scene has become much better in recent years, bands to check out: Bog People, Moral Hex, Deathcharge, Nerveskade, Vivid Sekt, Arctic Flowers etc.
