Word, glad what my bud said wasn't alien at all. punkmar77 wrote:Whoa..to the troll way way above, you accused us of deleting/censoring your thread and no one did....it's still there, genius. But if you want we can easily accommodate another thread derailing troll in the APN pantheon of seee ya! Though I'm thinking more in the terms of getting rid of the shitty idols of punk, like Wattie, GG Allin, Sid Vicious, hell, do we even need the Misfits? Graves and Steele are reactionaries and truth being told, they haven't produced any good albums since forever.
couldn't agree more with you...have spoken these exact words for decades now and agree with all your list except maybe for Justin Pearson whom I believe is a tad over-rated but is still a sweetheart of a human being. I think basically it's an individual choice, I mean the majority of those bands I never cared for in the first place... one of the greatest things about punk for me has always been about discovering great bands that hardly anyone else knows about from obscure and forgotten corners of the world and turning friends on to their music...why get stuck on the rag worn same old same old?

If they were also christian tho they'd be like Americas Republican Party. Scary!
I know the types all too well... They are just too "Punk Rock" for me. As for "Punk Idols" I personally see nothing wrong with them myself.

The most popular band here, Carburetor Dung once said at a gig that I attended that being apathetic towards politics is dangerous since politics affects you in many ways. Also, I like how these kind of people wouldn't pay attention when their rights for a minimum wage and unionizing are being removed, but if a black guy or a female gets promoted at his workplace and he bitches about how the system is screwing him and cries racism.
Punk is dead. Long live punk.

Haha so true so true... Maybe they are just reactionaries posing as rebels I think... & back to the thread: I like my "Punk Idols"! LOL!

I think what you are referring to are influences, as opposed to 'idols'.
Influences come in many shapes and forms, bands like the exploited and sex pistols are probably cited more often because they are more well known
Rather than 'destroying idols', (in which you will inevitably spend way more time than you want to talking about how a band or artist is shit than talking about why a current band is awesome), I think focus on talking about the music you love and recommending people to listen to that. I will check out Matt Domino and Justin Pearson, you can check out The Murderchord (youtube 'Whiskey and Water).
I don't hate old bands for what they've done, but yes, it gets very fucken old when they are all that crops up in conversation.
