"How did it begin? Well, i'd like to say that we met under dark, lurid circumstances, almost too painful to tell, but, alas, it all began for me on a sunny day, with birds chirping cheerfully in the trees, looking down upon three naive lads in a skate park." That's what Randy Reinmann (Vocals) says about the beggining of the band called Massappeal.

They formed in 1985 in Sydney, Australia and they are one of the most intense live experience there, back in the late 80's and early 90's.

They were listening to bands like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Verbal Abuse, The Exploited, Blitz and Discharge, so the music they were playing was a mix of thrashy hardcore/punk sounds.

Raw energy, fast and intense music. Just play it loud!

    Genre: Hardcore Punk/Thrash

    Massappeal Biography

Hardcore and Punk band from Sydney, Australia, 1985 to 1994.
Formed in 1985 around core members, Brett Curotta (guitar) and Randy Reimann (vocals) with various floating rhythm sections, Massappeal forged an intense sound that relied as much on the early eighties hardcore sound of Black Flag or Bad Brains as it did much of early seventies prog & heavy rock a’la Black Sabbath and King Crimson and the desert sludge of acts like Kyuss through Sleep.
    ---

Massappeal , are Sydney 's most intense live experience from the late eighties and early nineties.
    n
nFormed in 1985 around core members, Brett Curotta (guitar) and Randy Reimann (vocals) with various floating rhythm sections, Massappeal forged an intense sound that relied as much on the early eighties hardcore sound of Black Flag or Bad Brains as it did much of early seventies prog & heavy rock a'la Black Sabbath and King Crimson and the desert sludge of acts like Kyuss through Sleep. Massappeal released three albums, the classic, Jazz (Waterfront), The Mechanic (Survival), Nommo Anagonno (Shock), as well as the mini album, Nobody Likes A Thinker and single Fun Again (both Waterfront), before breaking up in 1994.
    n
nLive, listening to Massappeal, was like being in factory in full motion with the band members seemingly overwhelmed with the power they produced. Curotta grimacing the whole time, each drummer flaying wildly at the demands put upon them to keep up, each bass player almost on his knees such was the intensity and Reimann, floating on top of it all, eyes closed, swaying slowly or shaking violently as he took it all in. Seems out of place now doesn't it, amongst the commercial version of such a sound in nu-metal and emo-core. It's not. To see it live again, as was witnessed when the band were invited to perform as special guests of the Rollins Band plays Black Flag shows in 2003, is to realise exactly what is missing out there, intense, passionate, hard rock played with precision and a no holds barred delivery. It didn't sound dated, it sounded somewhere in the future, somewhere we hope that hard rock might get to again.
    n
nSuch was the response to the Black Flag supports, including a complete sell out of all their specially designed merchandise, that, Massappeal , have decided to crank it up and do it again. The current line up; guitarist, Curotta, vocalist, Reimann (elsewhere seen in Byron Bay based electro-pop band, Kolliope), drummer Alex Wood (Headless Horsemen) and bassist Sean Fonti (played bass with Massappeal through 1990, recording the "Jazz" album with the band).
